Residents of Waterford in Portmore, St Catherine, teamed up to march through their community singing songs of praise on Sunday.
The peace march came in the wake of recent killings in sections of Waterford that left the community in mourning.
Just recently, a returning resident was murdered near the home of his mother. The STAR understands that he flew into the island to attend a funeral.
"Save Waterford, Jesus!" one woman whaled while walking among the gathering.Fenley Douglas, the councillor for the Waterford Division, said the march was a concerted effort.
"The church, the Portmore Municipal Council, the Waterford Citizens Association and the police and other stakeholders are all united against crime and violence," he said.
"Everybody is out, at least 2,000 persons have joined the march and we expect more persons to come on board as we walk through the different areas in Waterford.
We believe that enough is enough, we need a future for our youths and a chance for their survival and we can't do this without peace."
Douglas and the residents promised that the march will not be the end of the road in terms of demanding peace in the community. "We are serious about putting an end to crime and violence in our community," he said. Douglas has been working closely with residents to see to the betterment of the area. He is the main sponsor of the Waterford Community Corner League Football tournament.
