Freaky man masturbates on shoppers - Female left crying in store

André Williams, STAR Writer

Two women were given an unforgettably horrible shopping experience in downtown Kingston last weekend, after a man ejaculated on them in a grocery store, THE WEEKEND STAR understands.

Information reaching our news desk is that one of the unsuspecting women was moved to tears, while the other was grateful for the discovery before she reached home.

The popular grocery store was a chaotic scene when allegations of the incident were made. This forced the proprietors to review the store's closed-circuit television, where the frightening incident was observed. An unknown man twice entered the store, and while among the busy gathering, unbelievably masturbated on the two female shoppers.

Head of the Kingston Central Police Division, Superintendent Victor Hamilton, said he was not aware of the incident. "I will definitely send people out there to investigate," he assured.

unsuspecting women

A store representative, however, confirmed the gross act. "They go in the wholesale when it crowded and apparently masturbate behind the woman dem. They release the cum on the unsuspecting women.

The wholesale is so pack that dem nuh realise, because nuff people jus a rub up on them."

The representative further said: "We had two attacks Saturday gone, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. The lady in the morning cried bad, bad, but the one in the evening said she was glad she saw it while she was out on the road because if she had reached home she couldn't tell her man anuh man yard she a come from."

The representative said that they were unable to identify the accused as he left quickly after finishing the act.

When asked if a report was made to the police, the representative said: "No report was made from us, and I don't think the women reported the matter either. We are not sure if the police are aware because I suspect that he does it elsewhere too."

One witness shared what she observed. "Is my store dat, mi shop there every weekend. If mi nuh go Friday, mi go Saturday. Mi deh deh and a woman start bawl when somebody show har say she mess up ... when she realise a wah, she start bawl," she revealed.

Woman gets 10 years for killing sister

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

Suzan Smith, who pleaded guilty to killing her sister Stacey-Ann, was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment in the St Catherine Circuit Court yesterday.

When Smith reappeared before Justice Vivienne Harris, her lawyer, Roy Stewart, pleaded for leniency.

Her father also begged the judge to be merciful to the accused who has young children.

Justice Harris then told the accused that she was planning to sentence her to 14 years in prison.

She was told that having spent two years in custody, her guilty plea has being considered and she will serve 10 years.

The Crown led evidence that on April 6, 2012 Suzan used a blunt object to kill her sister. She reportedly buried the body in a part of the house which was under construction. The body started to decompose and flies took over the area.

Suzan reportedly told family members that it was as a result of dead rats that caused the flies infestation. When family members inquired of Stacey-Ann, who had just returned home from abroad a few days earlier, she told them she was in another part of the island.

A missing person's report was made at the Waterford Police Station. An investigation was launched which resulted in the police retrieving the decomposed body. Smith was subsequently arrested and charged with murder by Detective Sergeant Llewellyn Madden.

Mother, daughters ordered to spend time in jail

Bjorn Burke, Staff Reporter

A mother, her two daughters and a woman were ordered to spend a bit of time together in a cell yesterday at the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate Court.

The elder of the daughters explained to Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey that the complainant was allegedly involved in family matters with her family.

"What is this family matters? Family Matters come pon TV," said RM Pusey

The elder daughter further explained that the complainant and her mother allegedly had a long-standing dispute over a house she was building and "She fight her and cuss har,"

The complainant rebutted with "Your Honour, me and these three ladies weren't friends. They are a misery in the place, a misery. I going to work, dem fass with me. I go school, dem fass with me,"

"Women must live good. You are the mother of these two big girls and you out there a fight people?" RM Pusey asked the mother.

RM Pusey dismissed the case and ordered the four to be held in the female lock-up for a short while so as to get along before being sent home.

$19 billion earned from Supreme Ventures' games last year

Last year, Jamaican players won more than $19 billion from playing the Cash Pot, Pick 4, Pick 3 and Pick 2 games.

Despite a population of about 2.6 million, Jamaicans won nearly 8,000 times more in 2013 from these games.

Some persons play just for the fun of it, while others use these winnings to pay outstanding debts or buy some extra groceries.

"When I win, I go to the grocery and get more food in the house," said delivery man Carey Richard.

Sonia Davidson, Supreme Ventures' vice-president for Group Corporate Communications, said: "I've heard people tell our cashiers how the silver lining to their day was looking forward to playing many of our games. They use the opportunity not only as a means of entertainment, but as a way of making ends meet. And the figures say it all, our players won over $19 billion playing Cash Pot, Pick 2, Pick 3 and Pick 4. That is not petty cash."

Sharing child porn is illegal - CISOCA

Following the recent circulation of pornographic content involving schoolgirls from a rural-based school on popular social media site Facebook, the Office of The Children's Advocate is warning the public that sharing child pornographic material is a criminal offence.

moral fabric

Children's advocate, Diahann Gordon Harrison, says that this practice must stop as it is not only dehumanising, but also erodes the moral fabric of society. She also said that this act is intolerable, illegal and unacceptable.

Checks made by THE WEEKEND STAR revealed that the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA), are probing the videos and pictures which emerged last week.

No arrest has been made.

Under the Child Pornography (Prevention) Act, a person who knowingly distributes, produces, advertises, imports or exports child pornography commits an offence.

Such a person is liable to be fined or imprisoned for a term not exceeding 15 years, or both.

Meanwhile, The Office of The Children's Advocate is recommending that parents, guardians, and caregivers have frank and age appropriate discussions with their children about sexual activity.

Tanker drivers back on the job

Crystal Harrison, Staff Reporter

Some motorists who were affected by the two- day gas strike are happy that the tanker drivers are back on the job, however, they wished they had an alternative.

"You know how things go, it's not all di time you full up your tank. Yu think a likkle gas station me check only to find out that there is no gas. Nothing can't go like this. This is a plan ting, dats why people should have options," a motorist, who was spotted at a service station along Half-Way Tree Road, St Andrew, told THE WEEKEND STAR.

"Yea, man! Dem ting yah mek you really wish we had an alternative because what if dem never decide that they gonna return to the job. What would happen to the country?" a taxi-operator added.

Another motorist said: "It's not good to have monopoly in no situation, whether with water, light, or gas, because people can do as dem please. Mi understand dat dem want a new package, but it shouldn't be that we are at their mercy."

Tanker drivers returned to work at 5 a.m. yesterday, following the signing of a new wage and fringe benefit agreement.

The agreement was arrived at close to midnight on Wednesday, during a meeting with the National Workers Union and the Petroleum Haulage Contractors Association.

JAMAICAN ATHLETE ABUSES GIRLFRIEND - Flees USA after incident

A Jamaican athlete has allegedly sprinted from the United States of America following reports that he assaulted his girlfriend, who is also an athlete.

THE STAR understands that both athletes last represented Jamaica at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.

Information reaching our news team is that the pair had a recent dispute in which the female athlete was allegedly beaten, resulting in the male athlete leaving the states in an attempt to maintain a low profile.

A source close to the two told THE STAR that reports had also surfaced in the past that the two had an abusive relationship.

"A something him do all the while. They have been together for sometime, through all college. She got pregnant outside their relationship. At one point in time they were training together and problems arose and she had to leave," the source claimed.

THE STAR also gathered that they were enrolled in different colleges while in the United States, but could only maintain a strained relationship because of the frequent abuse.

Our news team could not confirm if the female athlete made a report to the police about the assault.

Efforts by THE STAR to speak with both athletes proved futile.

Evidence integrity questioned in Kartel's trial

Barbara Gayle, Justice Coordinator

A policeman from the Cybercrimes Unit said under cross-examination yesterday at the Vybz Kartel murder trial that he could not speak to the integrity of the two compact discs which Detective Sergeant Patrick Linton, the former head of his unit, had given him to analyse.

Constable Kemar Wilks, a digital forensic examiner and crime investigator, said Linton gave him the discs on November 24, 2011. He said he recorded what was on the discs in his statement. One of the discs had 40 voice notes while the other was a video, and he prepared a statement from the voice recordings.

The transcript of the recordings was tendered into evidence despite objections from the defence lawyers that Linton had said earlier in his testimony that he could not vouch for the integrity of the contents of the CDs.

Cross-examined by defence lawyer Pierre Rogers, Wilks agreed that videos and voices could be manipulated. He said he did not see the face of anyone who was speaking in the video.

Wilks said each person at his office had a secure storage area and own personal key.

Questioned as to whether he left his key on top of his storage area, the witness said "No, sir."

Cross-examined by defence lawyer Michael Lorne, the witness said he could not vouch for the integrity of the items he received from Linton.

Linton admitted yesterday under cross-examination by Rogers that a cellular phone attributed to Kartel was used to make several calls on October 9, 2011, after it was handed over to him by a policeman from the Flying Squad on October 3, 2011. He said he had locked up the phone, but had left the key on top of the locker in his office.

Linton was asked if he recalled telling the court that if the phone was left for unauthorised persons to use, then it would be worthless. He said he did not remember saying so.

Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, is on trial in the Home Circuit Court along with entertainer Shawn Campbell, also called 'Shawn Storm', Kahira Jones, Shane Williams and Andre St John.

The Crown is alleging that Clive 'Lizard' Williams was beaten to death on August 16, 2011 at Kartel's house in Havendale, St Andrew, over two missing guns.

Beggar knocks out Rastaman after denied request

André Williams, STAR Writer

The St Andrew North police have taken into custody a man believed to be of unsound mind after he refused to take no for an answer, and knocked a rastafarian man unconscious in a plaza along Constant Spring Road.

Information reaching THE STAR is that on Monday about 9:15 p.m., the accused man, who is a known beggar in the area, went inside the grocery store and was turned away.

THE STAR gathered that the beggar was seemingly shocked to be denied as he was accustomed to getting through with his request for small items.

This resulted in a tussle between himself and the dreadlocked proprietor.

Our news team understands that during the tussle, a board was used to hit the operator across his head resulting in him being knocked to the ground unconscious for a few minutes.

The mentally ill man ran from the scene after the incident, and a man who saw what transpired gave chase, however, he was no match for the accused man's speed.

A police team on patrol in the area later caught up with the runaway suspect and brought him back to the scene where he was identified. Scores of angry persons who had converged at the scene wanted the man released so they could apply their own justice.

When THE STAR visited the plaza yesterday, several store operators told our news team that the shop has not been opened since the incident, and that they last heard that the rastafarian man had to seek medical attention.

The St Andrew North police said that the suspect, who is in custody, is yet to be charged formally.

Rush on gas stations - Motorists worried after tanker drivers strike

Several motorists who rushed to service stations yesterday evening because of an ongoing strike by tanker drivers were turned away due to the lack of fuel.

THE STAR visited several gas stations in the Corporate area last night, and most of them were either closed or had diesel fuel only.

Tanker drivers islandwide withdrew their services and have issued threats to continue their strike action to force petroleum marketing companies to honour a Memorandum of Understanding, (MoU) signed last year.

Gas finished

"I am just coming from work and I stop and this is the second gas station that I am stopping. My tank is not empty, but di way tings a move, I want to full up my tank," said a driver who was at the Johnson's Petroleum service station on Beechwood Avenue.

That gas station, THE STAR was told, has been without gasolene since Tuesday evening.

"Gas finished from in the afternoon. Because a driver would see another driver turn in a di station dem might think dat gas is here, but there is no gas. I don't know what's gonna happen," a pump attendant at a Texaco gas station on Half-Way Tree road told THE STAR.

Meanwhile, despite the strike, effective today, a litre of E10-87 gasolene is to be sold for $114.71, while E10-90 will be sold for $116.36 per litre.

The prices of all other petroleum products have also been increased. This includes automotive diesel oil which will move up by $1.64 to be sold for $124.90 per litre.

Retailers will add their markups to the announced prices.

Father gunned down near school

André Williams, STAR Writer

The St Andrew Central police have began a probe into the fatal shooting of a man yesterday morning, minutes after he dropped his son at a school in the Corporate Area.

The dead man has been identified as 35-year-old Rohan 'Rudy' Newman.

Information reaching THE STAR is that Newman was shot close to the Tarrant Primary School, off Molynes Road.

Reports from the police are that Newman was dropping a child off at 8 a.m. A lone assailant, reportedly on foot, fired several shots in his direction. Newman was hit multiple times before collapsing inside his vehicle.

Eyewitnesses said two children were in the car, and although visibly shaken, they were unharmed.

The police investigation continues.

Man in custody, four jet skis seized after fatal accident

The police in Westmoreland have taken a man into custody and seized four jet skis, following Tuesday's accident which claimed the life of an American tourist who was visiting the resort town of Negril.

It is reported that Thomas Torres, 53, from Las Vegas, was swimming when he was hit in the head by a jet ski. The operator of the jet ski did not stop.

Torres was rushed to the hospital in Savanna-la-Mar where he was pronounced dead.

Following investigations, the police later detained the jet ski operator.

Last October, tourism minister Dr Wykeham McNeil announced a six-month suspension of the importation of jet skis, following reports of accidents.

The police later seized several illegally operated jet skis in the northern parish of St Ann and other resort areas after the announcement.

On Thursday when the matter was called up in the Corporate Area Resident's Magistrate's Court, the accused, who is charged with unlawful wounding, pleaded not guilty.

The court heard that on November 30, the accused allegedly used a bottle to stab the complainant in her face because she intervened in a dispute between him and her friend. The incident reportedly took place at a bar in Lawrence Tavern, St Andrew.

She further stated that; "Mi go call mi boyfriend. Him start chuck him and dem get in a little fight and then people hold on to mi boyfriend. Then next thing when mi look him come up to me and use the bottle and stab mi inna mi face."

Chad Bryan, STAR Writer

Family members carrying out clean-up exercise at their home after O'rantis Daley was shot dead by gunmen in Jones Town on Monday. - Jermaine Barnaby

Grief and shock showed on the faces of the occupants of a house on Penso Street, Jones Town, St Andrew, following an incident of rape, robbery and murder yesterday.

THE STAR learnt that about 3 a.m. gunmen, three of whom were masked, gained entrance to a house where a laptop, a number of cell phones and other items were stolen.

shot

A 21-year-old woman was raped and a man identified as O'rantis Daley was shot dead.

"A friend of the family was used as leverage to gain entrance to the house, but the man jumped through a window and escaped and the men ran after him," said a 22-year-old occupant.

He also explained that one of the men shot Daley in front of his five year-old child and that a 13-year-old was also gun-butted. Daley's common-law wife was also gun-butted.

When THE STAR visited the community, few occupants were seen in the yard, while others tried to clean up the house.

The police are currently investigating.

Lawyer claims witness showed ill will towards Kartel

Barbara Gayle and Sheldon Williams, Staff Reporters

Former head of the Cybercrimes Unit, Detective Sergeant Patrick Linton, yesterday denied making disparaging comments on his Facebook page about Vybz Kartel.

Kartel's lawyer, Tom Tavares-Finson, suggested that in August 2011, the witness showed ill will towards Kartel by posting unkind comments under a picture of the entertainer with a Trinidadian woman.

"You have been putting some nasty things on Facebook," Tavares-Finson said.

Linton responded: "I don't recall, Facebook is hackable."

Defence lawyers questioned Linton as to how the BlackBerry cell phone attributed to Kartel was used to make several calls when it was locked up for safe keeping in his exhibit locker.

Linton said in response to Tavares-Finson and attorney-at-law Pierre Rogers, that he had no explanation for that. He said the key was put on top of the locker and he did not take it home with him.

The lawyers suggested that the BlackBerry phone was used on October 9, 2011 to make several calls and that the integrity of the phone was compromised. Linton said he could not say it was compromised. He agreed that the phone was put in the locker for safe keeping.

Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, is charged jointly with entertainer Shawn Campbell, also called Shawn Storm, Kahiro Jones, Shane Williams and André St John for the murder of Clive 'Lizard' Williams of Waterford, St Catherine.

The Crown is alleging at the trial in the Home Circuit Court that Williams was beaten to death at Kartel's house in Havendale, St Andrew, on August 16, 2011 over two missing guns.

School administrator accused of stealing $1m gets bail extension

A school administrator accused of pocketing more than $1 million from her institution's purse had her bail extended in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Sheryl Harris pleaded guilty to embezzlement and returns to court on February 27, when the matter will be mentioned as investigations are ongoing. The accused is already on the sentencing list.

Allegations are that Harris did not turn over funds paid to the school to cater for the children.

The court heard that the school caters for children with special needs.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey said that the additional time that the police are requesting to unearth more missing funds will not lessen or worsen Harris' sentence.

The investigators in the case have asked the court for some time as there are indications that more money is involved.

Man fined $20,000 for assaulting girlfriend

A man who is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend on New Year's Eve was fined $20,000, or six months in prison, when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court recently.

Pleading guilty to the charge of assault occasioning bodily harm is Christopher Simmons of a Kingston address.

It is alleged that on December 30, Simmons punched the complainant in the face in Half-Way Tree, St Andrew, after she refused to speak to him.

Simmons, who denied punching the complainant, told the court, "Is ignorancy. Me neva mean fi lick har. A one lick me lick har!"

He was reprimanded by RM Pusey and fined.

Six months in prison for stealing vasoline

Laughter erupted in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday after the charges were read for a man who was accused of stealing.

Answering to a simple larceny charge is Humphrey Keathing of a Kingston address.

It is alleged that Keathing stole a bottle of Vaseline and mixed nuts from a supermarket recently.

Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked the accused what he did for a living, to which he responded, "handy man," which sparked laughter in the court.

Keithing told the court, "It was a mistake on my part." Pusey responded, "what you did was absolutely unnecessary, especially for a working man!"

He was fined $10,000 or six months in prison.

WIFE FOR RENT - $30,000 for spouse services

Christopher Serju, Star Writer

Shopkeepers, washer women, hairdressers and housekeepers are among some of the occupations women are engaged in on the Middle Cay of the Pedro Banks. However, there are other women who have been providing well-needed service to the hardworking men that are there.

With some of the fishermen staying as long as nine months before returning to the mainland, some of these women have been playing the role of rent-a-wife.

THE STAR has learnt that the rent-a-wife can earn as much as $30,000 a month for doing all the regular household duties: washing, cooking, cleaning, and of course catering to the sexual desires of her client.

"What happens is a contractual marriage where he pays you for the week, and you do all wifely activities. You cook, when him come in him get him dinner, the place clean, she wash, do everything - for a price," one person familiar with situation at the cays, told THE STAR.

And, of course, with women accounting for under 10 per cent of the population on one of Jamaica's most popular offshore fishing locations, the usual market forces obtain with supply and demand dictating the cost of goods and services.

"The more 'fresh' the girl is, the more she can charge. If she is there for a long time everybody know her already, so she charges a lower price than the new girl," our informant disclosed. "For the week, she will cook, wash your clothes, do everything that a regular wife would do, but you just rent her for the week."

Then what happens at the end of the week? "She is liable to be somebody's rent-a-wife the other week and the other week and the other week."

One woman who is the wife of a fisherman, who plies his trade on the cays, told THE STAR that she has accompanied her husband there as a form of security.

She said that her main reason for being there is to ensure that his money and sex drive are channelled to the right place. While they are there, the children are left with a grandmother, with their mother content to stay on the cay for as long as her man is there.

Man gets 15 years for killing girlfriend

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

A man who pleaded guilty to the stabbing of his girlfriend was sentenced to 15 years' hard labour in the Supreme Court yesterday.

He is Marvin Douglas, 34-year-old, labourer, of Mount View, St Catherine.

Douglas was sentenced after the death of Charmain Duncan, 46-year-old labourer, also of Mount View.

When the matter came up in court, attorney Lancelot Clarke made an impassioned plea on Douglas' behalf.

Clarke claimed that it was Duncan who attacked the accused and that the circumstances must be considered.

cruel act

In handing down his sentence, however, Justice Glen Brown told the accused that it was a cruel act that he committed.

The Crown alleged that on May 4, 2012 the accused and Duncan had a disagreement at home when he was said to have stabbed her 20 times.

He reportedly drove away from the scene, however, his vehicle crashed along the Highway 2000 Toll Road. Douglas was hospitalised as a result of injuries received.

Investigation by Detective Corporal Jerimiah Bryant led to him been charged with murder.

Douglas pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter in the St Catherine Court in December.

Reports from the Hunts Bay police are that about 11:15 a.m., Davis was last seen at home and has not been heard from since. When last seen he was dressed in a blue and white-striped shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone knowing Leaton's whereabouts is being asked to contact the Hunts Bay police at 923-7111 , police 119 emergency number, or the nearest police station.

Residents and the police in western Kingston, beginning February 3, will undertake a new initiative to curtail the movements of children at nights, THE STAR has learnt.

Information reaching our news team is that there are approximately 25 gangs operating in the West Kingston Police Division with most gang members ranging from ages 12 to 25.

In a bid to control the movements of children, the police have instituted community monitors, who will be integral in enforcing the curfew.

According to the police, these monitors will be the first enforcers, with the police only stepping in if the monitors are unable to get the co-operation of offending parties.

THE STAR understands that under the new measure, children will not be allowed to be on the streets after 9 p.m.

Commanding officer for the Kingston Western Police Division, Senior Superintendent Steve McGregor, says the police have been holding meetings with community members in relation to the planned curfew.

Barbara Gayle and Sheldon Williams, STAR Reporters

Vybz Kartel - file

A BlackBerry text message sent from a cell phone attributed by the police to entertainer Vybz Kartel stating that Clive 'Lizard' Williams was chopped up 'fine, fine' was one of the messages read to the jury yesterday during the murder trial.

The message also stated that William's body would never befound.

Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, has been on trial in the Home Circuit Court since November last year for the murder ofWilliams.

opportunity

Tom Tavares-Finson, Kartel's lawyer, had objected to the message, which was dated August 19, 2011, being tendered into evidence, saying that in the absence of the jury only a portion of that message waspresented.

When he pressed for a determination on the issue from Justice Lennox Campbell, the response was "My determination is that yousit."

The judge had earlier pointed out that Tavares-Finson would have the opportunity to deal with the issue duringcross-examination.

Detective Sergeant Patrick Linton, formerly of the Forensic Communications and Cybercrimes Unit, presented into evidence, video footage and several text messages from a phone attributed toKartel.

"Memba seh a mi name WorlBoss, so a me dem a go sen fa," a message dated August 18, 2011 read. Another message read "Only We or Shawn can sink we, so we haffi watch if police come fidem."

There were other messages which were allegedly sent from the phone attributed to Kartel stating that he planned to leave the island. In one message, assistance was sought from the receiver of the message for assistance to leave the island fast. Assistance was being sought to fly to Cuba or take a boat to The Bahamas because "mi nuh wah wait till it get toohot."

A video was also played in court in which several men were seen. One man had a pickaxe swinging and a voice was heard saying "Hold 'im down and cut 'imthroat."

A man was seen in the video with tattoos on hisforearms.

Teacher accused of boxing student

Crystal Harrison, Staff Reporter

A teacher who is accused of boxing a male student has been reportedly brought to the attention of the Ministry of Education.

Information reaching THE STAR is that the incident at school occurred a few days after the second-form student had a freak accident.

It was reported that as a result of the accident, the teen had received an injury close to his eye.

Further reports are that the student visited a doctor and was instructed to stay home for a couple days, however, it's alleged that during class one day at school, the teacher turned and boxed the boy on the same wound on his face.

outburst in class

It was alleged that the teen was boxed because he made an outburst in class.

THE STAR understands that the school wanted to deal with the matter internally, and that the police had not become involved, however, it's reported that one of the boy's parents had brought the matter to the attention of the Ministry of Education.

Byron Buckley, the Ministry of Education's director of corporate communications, said that he couldn't confirm or deny the incident.

"What normally happens is that the school would prepare a critical incident report to the relevant regional office and the ministry would take it from there to see if there are any legal implications," Buckley said.

Chain thief was too slow

Could not outrun chaser after grabbing jewellery

Bjorn Burke, Staff Reporter

If ever one should resort to boldly stealing jewellery in the street in broad daylight, aspirations to run like Usain Bolt should be in order.

Gary Barrett learnt this the hard way, when he was chased and held after doing just that.

Barrett, who pleaded guilty to malicious destruction of property, larceny from the person and unlawful wounding, was sentenced to six years in prison in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Barrett snatched a chain from the neck of the complainant and fled but was caught by persons who witnessed the crime. In snatching the necklace, Barrett supposedly cut the complainant in the process. The chain, now broken, was recovered from the accused.

When asked by Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey if he had a defence, Barrett responded "I don't have nothing to say".

He later revealed that this was the fourth time he was convicted for larceny from the person.

Upon hearing this, RM Pusey sentenced him to three years for larceny from the person, and three years for unlawful wounding to run concurrently.

Man accused of stabbing gets bail

A man who is accused of stabbing a woman on her shoulder had his bail varied to $50,000 when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

He is Leon Cole who pleaded not guilty to unlawful wounding.

Cole who was originally given $150,000 bail is to return to court on March 26.

Allegations are that on December 12, the accused and the complainant got into an argument when it's alleged that Cole pulled a rachet knife.

The accused told the court that the complainant pushed him in his face and he saw her with acid and a rachet knife.

"Me and her gentleman had an argument and she chuck off me face your honour. Me did walk her out but she follow me into di betting shop and I saw when she went into her bag for di acid. Me and her get into a tussle and that was how she did get did cut," Cole told the court.

Woman gets community service for punching

Bjorn Burke, Staff Reporter

A Vineyard Town woman who is accused of punching a man in the eye was ordered to serve 50 hours community service by the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

She is Arita Robinson, charged with disorderly conduct and assault occasioning bodily harm.

got physical

The Crown alleges that Robinson, a bartender, got into a dispute with her babyfather over their children. The dispute got physical when Robinson, who was now at the police station, punched the complainant in his eye in front of police officers causing injuries.

"Is the first time I'm hitting your honour," she explained.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered her to do 50 hours of community service or serve two years in prison.
