JPS crews working in collaboration with members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force removed 1,000 pounds of illegal connections and discovered 12 cases of street light tampering in Flankers, St James, on Saturday.
Street light tampering is one of the primary causes of malfunctioning street lights in the community, as well as others which are served by the Residential Advanced Metering Infrastructure (RAMI).
During the operation, seven arrests were made, bringing the number of arrests for the illegal abstraction of electricity since the start of the year to 185. The operation took place in the Industrial, Pele Street, Providence, Church Hill Lane, Codac Street and McKenzie Drive sections of the community.
Earlier this month, 18 persons were brought before the Linstead Resident Magistrate's Court, for illegal abstraction of electricity.
Thirteen pleaded guilty and were fined $150,000 each.
The other five are to be tried on August 11, 2014.
