Diandra Grandison, Staff Reporter

THE STAR contacted the controversial actor/comedian who told our news team that his only response to the rumour is, "me deh pan di borderline!"

Social network has been abuzz, after Ramsey posted a picture of the baby online on the weekend.

The image, however, started to receive heavy circulation sometime yesterday afternoon, after it was alleged that the Bashment Granny star is the father.

THE STAR tried to obtain further information from Ramsey about the child, but he was tight-lipped on the matter, only stating, "me waa me fans dem to keep thinking; me like intrigue people. I just want them to fill in the blanks."

Ramsey is currently starring in the roots play, Bashment Granny 3: Bashy Dead which can be seen at the Green Gables Theatre.

Shebada fans can also look out for his sitcom Shebada in Charge Part 2, which is scheduled to air next year.

Robbers continue to plague China Harbour construction site

Investigations have revealed that the China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) has been hit by theft again after a chest was stolen.

Reports are that on Tuesday morning, security personnel at the Treadways site in St Catherine realised the chest was missing.

It is revealed that the chest, which was thought to have contained millions of dollars, only contained documents.

Meanwhile, an intensive investigation is under way to find the item and those responsible for its removal.

The Star learnt that security personnel worked at the site during the time the item was removed.

Since CHEC started to work on the North-South Highway project, it has been hit with murders, robberies and other criminal activities.

Choir members prevent mob beating

Chad Bryan, Staff Reporter

Choir members of a Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in St James, Montego Bay, had to rescue three men, who were alleged to have robbed a woman, after they were set upon by an angry mob.

A fourth individual, a 17 year-old, was allegedly beaten to death by the mob in the incident.

According to the St James police, the lawmen were called to the scene to remove the three men and the deceased, 17-year-old Jevaughn Wilmott, after they allegedly held up and robbed the female, who then raised an alarm.

This subsequently resulted in residents attacking the four men.

Wilmott was caught and then beaten. Upon the arrival of the police, he was seen with multiple stab wounds.

The other three men, who escaped, ran inside the SDA church where members of the choir were in a rehearsal session. The men were later rescued by the police.

Police make breakthrough, identify suspects in murder

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

The Linstead police in St Catherine said they have made a breakthrough in a murder in the area last week.

The body of Samuel Blake, otherwise called Sammy, a 53-year-old farmer of Victoria district, Linstead, St Catherine, who was killed in the community underwent a post-mortem which revealed that he died from a deep wound to his upper body.

It has been revealed that one of two suspects is expected to be charged with murder.

He is yet to be interviewed in the presence of his attorney.

Reports are that last Wednesday, November 12, Blake's relatives made a report to the police. An investigation was launched, which led a police party to the remote hills of Wakefield Savannah in St Catherine.

A search was conducted and Blake's body was found in what appeared to be a coal kiln.

Detective Sergeant Oral Israel of the Linstead police is conducting investigations into the matter.

Fraudster's bail extended

A man, who allegedly defrauded telecommunications giant Digicel of thousands of US dollars had his bail extended in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Charged with conspiracy to defraud is 39-year-old Shawn Allen, who was ordered to surrender his travel documents.

Allegations are that following a report made by Digicel Jamaica in October, police from the Organised Crime Investigation Division, along with personnel from the telecoms company carried out an operation at the Medical Associates Hospital.

The teams were led to the medical institution based on coordinates provided by equipment used by a company contracted by the telecoms agency to track devices used to facilitate the bypass of international calls to Jamaica.

This has resulted in a revenue loss of approximately $200,000 to Digicel and the Government. The device operating at the location allegedly under the control of the accused was seized and is currently undergoing analysis by the Police Cybercrime Unit.

The matter is scheduled to be mentioned on January 27.

Suspected poisoning leads to INDECOM investigation

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched an investigation into yesterday morning's suspected poisoning of a woman and a man in Horizon Park, St Elizabeth.

The woman, identified as Kerry-Ann Powell, has since died.

The man, Obrien Sinclair, was injured.

It is alleged that yesterday morning, a member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and two civilian accomplices entered the home of Sinclair with a poisonous substance.

Preliminary checks suggest that the substance is an insecticide called Lannate.

INDECOM says a scientific test will be carried out to prove the nature of the substance.

The substance was allegedly used to douse both Sinclair and Powell.

Powell later died.

The implicated cop and the two civilian accomplices have been taken into police custody.

The matter is being treated as a joint investigation between the JCF and INDECOM.

According to INDECOM, the Victim Support Unit and the Child Development Agency are also involved in the investigation as Powell's children were observed wandering the streets in their night gowns near their home.

The children were picked up by residents and taken to a relative.

INDECOM is appealing to anyone with any information that can assist with this or any other investigation to visit or call its Central Regional Office in Mandeville.

Cross-dressers attack, rob politician

Chad Bryan, Staff Reporter

A female Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) councillor was yesterday evening robbed of her cell phone and keys by men dressed up as women from the Shoemaker Gully as she made her way from the party's 71st conference.

"As the groups of JLP supporters were coming from the conference they converged on the gully and intended to mob the men, however, the police had to intervene to prevent what could have been a serious situation. There were quite a number of persons there," said Senior Superintendent Fitz Bailey, head of the St Andrew Central Division.

JLP supporters

The fire brigade also had to be called to the scene to extinguish a fire that was allegedly set by JLP supporters in anger.

"I actually spoke to the people and reassured them that we will deal with the matter and this prompted them to leave," Bailey stated.

The men, believed to be in the range of 18 years to the late 20s and who live in the gully, have continued to be a nuisance to residents and the business community in and around the New Kingston area. They continue to operate under the guise of homosexuals but are criminals, according to the senior policeman.

"If you go to the New Kingston area at nights it is like a ghost town because people are afraid to do their business. We had a stakeholders meeting and it was reported that a lot of persons are moving out of the area because of these men," Bailey explained. He also pointed out that one stakeholder could not find anybody to rent his property because of the men.

Labour ministry extends PATH collection options

Jolyn Bryan, Star Writer

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has extended several other options of collection to the beneficiaries of PATH.

A representative from the ministry revealed at the St Thomas Parish Council meeting last Thursday that persons can now access their PATH benefits at Bill Express and Paymaster offices across the island.

Previously, benefits could only be collected through the National Commercial Bank and at post offices.

The representative explained that a text message with a special code is generated and sent out once the payments are lodged, enabling persons to make collections.

Beneficiaries are being urged to keep their records and contact information up to date at the Ministry of Labour in order to receive texts with accurate information as benefits will not be dispensed without the correct code.

He is Kemar 'Gatlin' Thompson, who has been charged with seven counts of murder by the St Catherine Major Investigation Task Force. Reports are that Thompson was charged last Friday with the murders.

He has been charged with the three murders at Pineapple Lane and the four men who were killed during the China Harbour Engineering Company robbery in Bowers Hood district.

Thompson, who was on the police Most Wanted list, was held on November 11, 2014, along French Street in Spanish Town, St Catherine. He is booked to appear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Accused murderers to face court in February

Christopher Thomas, STAR Writer

WESTERN BUREAU:

Two St James men accused of stabbing another to death during a fight at a party earlier this year are booked to return to the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court in February next year, as the case file is still incomplete.

Robert Morgan, 25, from Roehampton, and Leroy Service, 27, from Lilliput, are charged with murder following the stabbing death of Adrian Brown on February 4. Their bails were extended to February 11, 2015, when they appeared in court last Friday.

The allegations are that, at approximately 12:10 a.m., the men were attending a party in Lilliput when an argument developed among them. The dispute escalated into a fight, during which knives were drawn and Brown was stabbed several times. He was subsequently pronounced dead at the Cornwall Regional Hospital.

On Friday, clerk of the court Natalie Malcolm told Resident Magistrate Carolyn Tie that the forensic certificate was not ready.

"The investigating officer is not here, and the liaison officer has informed me that the forensic certificate is still outstanding and is not ready. I will ask for a February date (to complete the file)," said Malcolm.

RM Tie subsequently instructed the defendants Morgan and Service to return to court on February 11.

"The paperwork in this matter is not ready. I am going to set this matter for February 11, and your bail is extended until then," said RM Tie.

MAJOR CRIMES DOWN IN ST ELIZABETH

Launtia Cuff, Star Writer

Despite recent incidents of violence in St Elizabeth, the most recent of which left a 16-year-old student dead and others injured, Superintendent Lansford Salmon, in charge of the parish, said all major crimes, except rape, were down in the parish.

He was speaking at the monthly meeting of the St Elizabeth Parish Council last Thursday.

"We have seen a decrease in all serious and major crimes. Only in the area of rape have [we] seen an increase. That's why we implore females particularly to be mindful when you're out there," Salmon said.

"Recently, we had a little flare-up in Pisgah, Huntley Castle. I know the citizens might be shaken up by it, but from a policing point of view, we are going to do whatever we can do to put a stop to that type of situation."

He said now more than ever, it was important for persons to be aware of what is taking place in their communities and assist the police.

"One of the problems we find is that citizens must be much more aware; we are not living in the 70s, now we are in 2014, the landscape has changed and we have to be much, much more aware," Salmon warned.

Making reference to a recent shooting in Junction, which left a businessman injured, Salmon said: "It can't be that men with guns go into a public place, [a] town centre, and shoot, and citizens are there and not even to catch a licence plate number. Even though it might be traumatic and frightening, [you] must capture something that will assist police with investigations."

He warned that people should be on the lookout as criminals, such as robbers and conmen are more likely to increase their activities this Christmas.

Cuban health workers arrive for Ebola preparedness training

The health ministry is to welcome 30 Cuban health workers today who will train local workers in Jamaica's Ebola preparedness.

The workers will conduct the training under an existing agreement between Jamaica and Cuba. The training of health workers forms part of the Government's Ebola preparation plan.

The health ministry says the construction of the Ebola Treatment Centre to be located at the Cornwall Regional Hospital in St James is progressing smoothly with the facility expected to be completed in a few weeks.

In a release yesterday, the acting permanent secretary, Dr Kevin Harvey, who toured the site on Saturday, indicated that he was pleased with the progress of the construction.

treatment centre

Harvey was accompanied by a the team which included the Jamaica Defence Force, civil engineers from the Ministry of Health, and the director of Health Systems Planning and Integration in the Ministry of Health and the Pan American Health Organization.

The treatment centre is a four-bed facility, which includes other areas for triaging, sanitising patients and staff and sterilisation of equipment and supplies.

A temporary Ebola isolation and holding area has also been established in a building on the compound of the facility. The area has already been equipped.

The treatment centre in the western region is one of two that have been established in the island to manage any possible case of Ebola. The other is located at the National Chest Hospital in St Andrew.

Thieves rob Miss Ja World of Crown

Chad Bryan, Staff Reporter

Thieves struck at Montego Bay's favourite posh and fashion forward entertainment party, RIP the STRIP, as the 2014 Miss Jamaica World winner Laurie-Ann Chin was allegedly robbed of her crown.

The event, which was held at the Old Hospital Park on Montego Bay's Hip Strip on October 23, saw more than 10 top-notch designers present to show off their designs.

A detective at the Freeport Police Station's Criminal Investigative Branch (CIB) in Montego Bay confirmed that an incident of larceny from a motor vehicle did take place, when thieves removed the crown from Chin's brand new Audi A3 sedan, that was awarded to her after she was crowned Miss Jamaica World 2014.

"About three weeks or so ago they broke into her car and stole the crown. It was in the case or the little box," the detective said.

According to him, the police have no suspects, however, investigation is still being carried out into the matter.

Psychiatric evaluation for man accused of stabbing former teen lover

A man who is accused of stabbing and breaking into the home of his former teenage lover because she ended the relationship, was sent for psychiatric evaluation when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.

Charged with assault at common-law and burglary is 47-year-old bus driver, Delroy Coombs of Stony Hill, St. Andrew, address.

According to reports, the 17-year-old complainant and Coombs were involved in an intimate relationship, which the complainant ended about two months ago, much to the alleged displeasure of the accused.

threatened to kill

On September 9, about 10:30 p.m., the complainant was in bed at her home that she shares with her mother and sister, when the accused allegedly kicked and broke an open space of about 22-inches into the lower section of a wooden door to the front of the house.

It is alleged that Coombs entered the room through the open space and threatened to kill the complainant, then used a ratchet knife to stab her. The complainant screamed for help and used a hammer to hit him on the head and he ran.

A report was made to the Stony Hill police and Coombs was subsequently arrested on a warrant on October 16.

The complainant told the court that the accused stalked her to the point where she could not stop in the Half-Way Tree area, she would have to go straight from home to school.

The accused told the court ,however, that at the time of their relationship, he thought the complainant was 18 years old.

Coombs is to return to court for mention on November 24, he was further remanded into custody.

Babymother dispute leads to wounding

Christopher Thomas, STAR Writer

WESTERN BUREAU:

A St James man accused of cutting his babymother's boyfriend on the abdomen during a fight, had his case deferred to November 25 when he appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Thirty-two-year-old Kino Johnson, of an Over River address, is charged with unlawful wounding.

The allegations are that the complainant - who also has a child with Johnson's babymother - arrived at the woman's home. While he was there, Johnson showed up and a dispute developed between the men, following which Johnson used a sharp object to inflict a wound to the complainant's abdomen.

On Wednesday, clerk of the court Natalie Malcolm told Resident Magistrate Carolyn Tie that the prosecution's case-file had not been completed.

"In this matter, the prosecution is awaiting the medical certificate and the arresting officer's statement," said Malcolm, who also asked for a subpoena for the officer.

The case was subsequently set for mention on November 25.

Man beats babymother, fined

Charged with assault and larceny is 29-year-old Beres Lee.

He pleaded guilty to the assault offence and offered the court an explanation regarding the larceny.

mi love her

Lee said: "Your Honour, a me school her enuh and mi love her and she want go to a next man."

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey told Lee, "The milk throw away and can't scrape up back."

Allegations are that Lee saw the complainant walking on the road and wrestled her phone from her, however, not before he bit her.

In court, when asked if they were still in a relationship, the complainant said no, while Lee stated otherwise.

she trick you

He said, "Yes, we are - a wah day she come link me."

RM Pusey said, "She is drifting and if she take 10 steps and return one, she still drifting. She says it is over so if she trick you and come back and link you once then."

Gunmen test new weapons in open lot

André Williams, STAR Writer

Sporadic gunfire by thugs, allegedly in an open lot which separates two crime stricken communities, Boat Island and Union Gardens, have had residents claiming gangsters are using the area to test new firearms.

THE STAR understands that the occurrence has become regular of late, especially in light of talks among residents who claim 'new shoes' run and that thugs in the area are prepping for anything.

A resident told THE STAR, "The ting set away because mi nuh see nobody ah get shot, a jus bare loud explosion gunshot fire last Thursday, Friday and Saturday, all different time a day ... so a must test dem a test out the new ting dem ... no war nah gwan bout ya now, but u know how tings go ina di garrison ..."

Our news team was told that several residents are on edge as the Christmas holiday nears however, one resident was of another view.

He said, "Christmas a come and man and man a go road go look it because dem tired fi a fire shot pan dem one another and no money nah mek, so dem mussi a test di tings dem before dem go road."

Divisional commander for the St Andrew South police, Senior Superintendent Richard Stewart, said he has not received reports of any gunfire.

Stewart said "There is a police post in the housing scheme (Caribbean Palm Estate) near that area, and if there were gunfire the police there would have been notified. There has been no significant limitation in policing those communities."

When quizzed by our news team concerning the reason (s) why a police post has been erected, Stewart said, "It is just an initiative of the Housing Trust to have a post set up whenever they are building in these areas."

Three St Andrew men charged with the fraudulent use of a credit card are to reappear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on March 17, next year.

Those charged are Damion Nelson, Dave Bradshaw and Steve Lyn.

When the matter was mentioned on Tuesday, Lyn's bail was extended, while Bradshaw and Nelson's bail offers were reduced from $400,000 to $350,000.

The court was also told that there were outstanding statements and a video footage that were yet to be added to the file.

unauthorised transaction

Allegations are that on August 14, this year, the complainant went to use his National Commercial Bank Visa Card.

The transaction was rejected due to lack of money.

After going online, the complainant found that a number of unauthorised transactions were conducted. An investigation was launched during which it was revealed that some of the transactions were done in Portmore, St Catherine.

Police investigations took them to a service station in Portmore where footage of the three accused using the card was seen.

They were subsequently charged with fraud by detectives from the Organised Crime Investigation Division.

Three on fraud charge reappear in court

A man was hauled before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, after he was allegedly found to be in possession a tablet computer distributed under the Government's Schools Tablet Computer Programme.

Charged with receiving stolen property is 23-year-old Steven Hickenson of a Red Hills Road, Kingston 19, address.

The Crown alleges that on the day of the incident, the accused was allegedly found in possession of the device along with a Nokia cellular phone, which is also believed to be stolen. He was subsequently arrested and charged.

In court, the accused man said that he was unsuspectingly sold the tablet computer on the side of the road in downtown Kingston.

"I didn't know it was stolen, but the phone is my phone still," he explained.

The court heard that the accused is a repeat offender with other matters before the court.

Subsequently, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey offered the accused bail in the sum of $50,000 with surety. He was ordered to return to court on December 8.

More than five motor vehicles have been stolen since the start of the year from the community of Eltham Acres in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

According to one resident of the community, whose vehicle was stolen on July 8, she had parked her car inside the yard only to discover that the vehicle was gone the following day.

"The car was just missing. The gates were just left open. I heard nothing, the alarm didn't go off, no dogs in the area were barking. I just completely heard nothing and nobody heard anything. I reported the matter to the police and from what I heard from persons in the area, it has been happening for some time," she said.

facility close

The latest car theft in the community was between last Thursday night and Friday morning. Almost a week earlier, last week Saturday, thieves made off with a white Toyota Axio. The resident who was relieved of his motor vehicle said he too discovered his vehicle missing the following morning.

"I reach home about 10 p.m. and looked out about 6 a.m. and didn't see the car," he said. He pointed out that the thieves had placed building blocks behind the doors of the houses they want to target for vehicles.

He is of the opinion that a new entertainment facility close to the community is posing a problem.

"They have a new place open up across the road. It draws all sorts of people. They have dance over there almost every night. The community is open, it's not protected by anyone," he said.

The suggestion had been made for the community to hire security to patrol the area, however, no one is willing to foot the bill.

In the meantime, a policewoman at the Spanish Town Police Station said she was aware of the thefts and could therefore provide no more details on the issue.

CAR THIEVES TARGET ELTHAM ACRES RESIDENTS

file - Lloyd 'Shorty' McLeod

The deadly Ebola virus may not be an epidemic on Jamaican soil just yet, but several of the island's people are concerned about its ramifications, as others ponder the true origin of the virus.

The Jamaican populace was seemingly shocked by news of the arrival of the virus in the United States in weeks gone by, leaving several in a state of angst as they hope, pray and work to keep the virus outside the island.

St Catherine most wanted nabbed

André Williams, STAR Writer

The most wanted man in St Catherine who has been implicated in the recent quadruple and triple killings, which rocked the parish, was nabbed yesterday along with his mother and two other persons, THE STAR understands.

Information reaching our news team is that the wanted man, 24-year-old Kemar Thompson, otherwise called 'Gatlin' or 'Spiderman', of Pineapple Lane, Bog Walk, has been linked to eight murders overall and several robberies and shootings in St Catherine.

THE STAR understands that he was picked up in the French Street area of Spanish Town.

In an operation led by Deputy Superintendent Meveral Smith, along with members of the St Catherine MIT, and members of OCID, the police swooped down on the Spanish Town-based premises shortly after midday and nabbed the suspect who has ignored calls from the police to turn himself in.

triple killing

Thompson has been implicated in the October 22 triple killing in Pineapple Lane in which 70-year-old traffic warden Matthew Taylor of Main Street, Linstead, St Catherine, 51-year-old Patrick Cummings and 35-year-old Warren Noland were gunned down.

The police have also stated that the man presently in their custody is also being investigated for the October 12 quadruple killing of the China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) workers.

The dead men from that incident are Courtney Cobourne, 38, of Gibraltar in the parish; Greg Harris, also of Gibraltar; Carlton Scott, 37, of Bowers, also in St Catherine; and Kirk Foote of Canaan district, St James.

THE STAR gathered as well that the scope of investigation surrounding Thompson goes beyond the recent killings.

Since he was transferred less than two months ago to the St Catherine MIT, DSP Smith has turned on the heat in the parish and yesterday was a case in point where the parish's most wanted was nabbed.

This development came at a time when the Police High Command is reportedly in the process of effecting some major transfers to nab more wanted men and tackle the crime problem.
