Man remanded for assault on promotional girl


A man who was brought before the court for the same offence on two different occasions was remanded into custody when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.


Charged with assault occasioning bodily harm is Samuel Savage of a Kingston address.


In the first charge, Savage is accused of hitting the complainant, a promotional girl, in the face causing discoloration and swelling.


Savage, however, denied the allegation, stating, "I only put up my hand and it catch her."


The complainant who told the court that she was forced to miss four days of work, asked to be compensated for the days missed.


"I do promotional work and I get $3,200 a day, and I missed four days so that was $12,800."


Resident Magistrate (RM) Georgianna Fraser asked the complainant if she visited the hospital for her injuries to which she stated, "Yes! Your Honour."

RM Fraser ordered the complainant to give a figure she would like the complainant to pay her as compensation, and she responded $25,000.


Savage was ordered to pay the complainant $25,000 and is to return to court on May 25.


The accused was again called to answer to another assault charge after he allegedly punched a man in the mouth.


According to reports, at the time of the incident, the complainant bought a drink from a vendor when he returned to the vendor saying he did not want it.


Savage allegedly intervened and the complainant responded, "mi buy nuttin from yuh?" to which the accused allegedly punched him in the mouth.


RM Fraser ordered Savage to receive anger management while in custody.
