A bailiff was badly beaten yesterday after turning up in Cross Roads, St Andrew, to seize a Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus.
Information reaching The Star is that the bailiff was so badly beaten that he was unable to walk properly.
It is reported that the bailiff was in the process of seizing the bus when it was driven to Lyndhurst Road, where he was attacked. Further reports indicate that cops were involved in the assault, however, that has not been confirmed.
On Monday, a bailiff seized three JUTC buses. The bus company is to pay out $48.7 million for the injury of four passengers following a ruling of the Supreme Court in January.
In a report carried in The Gleaner on Tuesday, attorney-at-law, Sean Kinghorn, said attempts to get JUTC to provide any of the outstanding money have been futile.
Senior Superintendent Fitz Bailey, head of the St Andrew Central Police Division, said he was unable to confirm if cops helped to carry out the assault on the bailiff.
"It's a matter that I have some amount of interest and if police officers are involved then I will have to ensure that a proper investigation is done to get to the bottom of it," Bailey said.
