An enraged babyfather who has been accused of attacking and stabbing the mother of his child while she was giving the baby a bath, had his bail application turned down yesterday in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

Charged with wounding is Oshane Parks, who pleaded guilty with explanation.

Parks began his explanation by starkly refuting the allegations against him that were read out in court.

"Your honour we had an argument and I was packing to leave. She came and started to take away my things that I was packing, then she say alright she ago a town so mi say, carry the baby with yuh. She say to me say why mi must carry the baby and the father is here. So mi tell her leave the baby with your sister then," he said.

The court was told that while the complainant was bathing the child, Parks appeared and started to stab her all over causing serious injuries to her upper body and also her right arm.

The court heard that the complainant was stabbed repeatedly even with the baby clutching to her hand.

ridicule him

Resident Magistrate Georgiana Fraser asked the accused, "Suppose the knife had slipped and stabbed the child?"

Parks did not directly answer the question he was asked, and preceded to tell the court that his baby mother returned and began to ridicule him.

He said, "Your Honour is not so it go. She start trouble me and then she touch me and I saw the knife on the bed and I took it up and used it."

Georgiana Fraser told the accused that before bail can be considered she needs to know a few things because she did not get from him that he was attacked or acted in self defence.

RM Fraser said, "I need to know the complainant's current status or to see if the charges will be upgraded to murder. If it is that her condition has worsened."

Parks fingerprints were taken on his previous court appearance and he is to return on April 29.
