A Jamaican residing in the United States was last Friday charged in relation to the molestation of a 14-year-old girl in New Jersey, THE STAR has learnt.

According to the Cliffview Pilot, 49-year-old Kevin Wright allegedly molested and sodomised the child over a four-month period, five years ago. An indictment reportedly outlined a series of alleged acts between March and July 2009 that include intercourse, giving and getting oral sex, masturbation, digital penetration and touching the girl's breasts and vagina.

Wright was also charged with impairing the morals of a minor.

Wright was arrested after the alleged victim (who was 14 at the time) told her mother about the alleged incidents. Her mother called authorities and detectives and members of the prosecutor's Special Victims Unit interviewed the alleged victim before arresting Wright.

Wright is being held on $125,000 bail in the Bergen County jail, reduced from $200,000.

Jolyn Bryan, Star Writer

The incident happened last week and was recorded and posted on several social media sites, including Facebook.

The video shows the students striking another male student with a belt, while other students watched.

Cops seize guns, rocket launcher on highway

The Trelawny police said two men have been taken into custody over yesterday's seizure of 11 guns and a rocket launcher during a spot check.

The men were reportedly stopped while travelling in a pickup along the Scarlett Hall area of the North Coast leg of Highway 2000. The guns and rocket launcher were found in a barrel.

An investigator said the weapons were concealed in what he described as a well-taped and packaged parcel.

The cops are warning motorists against alerting persons of police presence on the roads. Deputy Superintendent Odeen Dennis told The Star that the men almost eluded the police because other motorists warned them of their presence.

Fortunately, Dennis said the police saw what was happening and thwarted the bid to escape.

The senior policeman is warning motorists to desist from doing this because, according to him, many lives could be lost based on the number and types of guns seized.

Some of the weapons seized include a rocket launcher, an M-16, an AK-47, a Sniper rifle, one Intratek sub-machine and a Uzi sub-machine, among others.

The police said 16 guns have been recovered in the parish since the start of the year.

Cops say no reports of criminal activities up to last night

Chad Bryan, Staff Reporter

A 'Peace for Champs' campaign was launched in 2008 by Senior Superintendent Terrence Bent, in an attempt to reduce the level of violence in some of the top rival schools - after a series of incidents.

"Thus far, there has been none. I am anticipating that when patrons are going home, there will be," he said.

For more details on the points standings and full coverage of the ISSA/Grace-Kennedy Championships, turn to our STAR Sports.

Cops arrest security guards carrying guns without permit

The Runaway Bay Police in St Ann have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the employment of three security guards who were found carrying firearms without the required documentation or qualification.

It is reported that the police were doing checks at a resort in St Ann when the security guards were searched and the breaches detected.

When the police interviewed one of the men, he said he had no training in the use and care of a firearm and had not been granted a permit for the weapon. Further investigations led to the arrest of the other two security guards, one of whom is a supervisor.

All three security guards were employed to a security firm which was contracted by another company employed by the resort.

Detectives at the Runaway Bay Criminal Investigation Branch have widened their investigations to the companies implicated in the matter.

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

More than 70 persons were taken into custody by the security forces during an anti-crime operation yesterday.

About 1:30 p.m., heavily armed personnel swooped down on sections of March Pen Road, Dallas Lane, the bus park and, the general shopping district.

"We need this type of operation more often to get the criminals out of the way," a business operator said.

During the operation, the business community was adversely affected. Persons were inconvenienced in their movement, as security personnel went about their work.

"The operation is to deal with crimes which is as a result of intra-gang feud in the Clans Man Gang. This has resulted in murders and shootings, and it must stop," Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Marlon Nesbeth said.

SSP Nesbeth said while the leaders are in custody, they are giving instructions for persons to be killed.

Nesbeth also said that there were nine murder suspects on the parish's wanted list.

Number one on the list, he said, is Kelonji Tyrell, who is wanted for seven murders in Bog Walk, St Catherine.

He said that since 2015, a total of 15 illegal guns have been seized - 10 more than the corresponding period last year.

Clevaun Stewart, 33, is charged with possession of, dealing in, attempting to export, and conspiracy to export cocaine.

Allegations are that Stewart was about to board a flight destined for Toronto, Canada, when police at the airport stopped him and asked him a series of security questions.

A trial date was set for April 22.

Hooker stabs man for money

Chad Bryan, Staff Reporter

A newspaper vendor had to be rushed to hospital after an attempted scheme to con a woman into giving him sex resulted in him being stabbed several times.

The incident reportedly took place at a motel on Matthews Lane, Central Kingston.

The incident reportedly happened Wednesday afternoon, around 4. It is said that the man, after negotiating their sexual encounter, promised the woman the sum of $8,000.

"He invited a girl to buy some. He wanted a freak, and for a girl to do all di tings dem. He wrapped up $1,000 with some newspaper and gave to her. He locked the door because he didn't want her to come out. She stabbed him all over his body with his own knife," claimed a woman, who works next door to where the incident unfolded.

The woman claims the man's female companion was also stabbed during the incident and mentioned that the female attacker "did that type of business".

It is further alleged that the man's attacker came out of the motel and said to persons downstairs "unuh go look pon him because him suppose to dead," the woman revealed.

Head of the Kingston Central Police Division, Superintendent Michael Scott, said he was aware of the stabbing incident, but could not say whether it was over sex, because investigations are ongoing.

The senior policeman did reveal, however, that the pair had a dispute.

Andre' Williams, STAR Writer

A 15-year-old schoolboy is now reportedly in custody following a shooting incident Tuesday in Portmore, St Catherine, in which a 14-year-old schoolgirl was shot and hospitalised.

Initial reports reaching THE WEEKEND STAR were that the teen was shot during a confrontation allegedly between two men, and that the student was in the company of her friends when an armed man gave chase after another.

A senior policeman has since said charges are to be laid against the individuals who filed false reports surrounding the incident.

THE WEEKEND STAR gathered that the schoolgirl was rushed to hospital following the shooting.

A source close to the investigations said that information suggests the students were playing with the firearm, when it went off.

According to the Corporate Communications Unit (CCU), the incident occurred in the vicinity of the Greater Portmore Post Office.

THE WEEKEND STAR was told that the teen is still in critical condition.

The St Catherine South police are investigating.

Do not publish names says RM in Kartel trial

A magistrate has barred the media from publishing the names and other identifying information for the remaining witnesses in the corruption trial of the juror accused of trying to bribe his peers in the Vybz Kartel murder trial.

Resident Magistrate Maxine Ellis made it clear she did not want to interfere with the freedom of the press, but explained that there are "certain sensitive issues" she has to take into consideration.

"I must indicate that the court is hereby ordering that there should be no publication of the identity of witnesses for the remainder of the trial," Ellis ordered.

"Identifying information meaning name, address and place of employment. Anything that will allow people to identify them," she sought to clarify.

Livingston Cain, who served on the 11-member jury that convicted Kartel and his four co-accused, is on trial for six counts of perverting the course of justice and one count of conspiring to pervert the course of justice.

PM scolds gay-rights protesters in New York

Jerome Reynolds, Staff Reporter

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller yesterday strongly rebuked gay-rights protesters who crashed a speech she was delivering in New York, United States, yesterday.

The prime minister was speaking at the launch of the sixth Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference when the protesters demanded that the Jamaican government do more to protect gays

However, Simpson Miller did not take kindly to the disruption and chided the protesters for not telling the truth.

"Nobody never hears the Government of Jamaica beating up gays; not one. Let me tell you something; you want to disturb, you can disturb, but this woman come here with the blood of Nanny of the Maroons, and the spirit of Marcus Mosiah Garvey, and this woman is not afraid of no man, nowhere, anywhere, and I will speak the truth everywhere," the prime minister said to loud cheers and applause from the audience.

Simpson Miller noted her position and that her People's National Party government is different from that of the previous administration of Bruce Golding, who famously said that he would not allow gays to serve in his Cabinet.

She stressed that she will not be bullied by those who tell lies about Jamaica's treatment of gays.

The prime minister said Jamaica respects the human rights of all its citizens, including gays, and added that those who disagreed are not being truthful. "Jamaica will continue to rise and shine globally. Jamaica will rise and shine all over the world and no one man can stop that," Simpson Miller emphasised.

In the past, gay-rights advocates have picketed events attended by Prime Minister Simpson Miller in New York.

They have complained that there have been no real efforts by the prime minister and her government to follow through on her 2012 election promise.

Gay-rights advocates have also blasted the Government, claiming that it has done little to stem the violence and discrimination being faced by gays in Jamaica.

Bartender charged for buying stolen S5

Bjorn Burke, Staff Reporter

A woman accused of buying a cellular phone stolen from Jamaica Public Service (JPS) president and CEO, Kelly Tomblin, was granted bail when she appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Charged with receiving stolen property is bartender Alecia Smith, who previously pleaded not guilty to possession of stolen property.

The Crown led evidence that a Samsung Galaxy S5 cellular phone, property of the JPS CEO, was taken outside of her company office in New Kingston. It is believed that on March 8, the CEO had her mobile phone, initially believed to value $90,000, taken by a man who grabbed the gadget and made good his escape on a waiting motorcycle being driven by another man.

The court heard that the device was tracked, leading police to the accused woman in east Kingston. She reportedly told the officials that she had purchased the device for $25,000.

She was subsequently arrested and charged.

The police reportedly have both the rider and the pillion in the incident in custody. The court heard that the police were not opposed to bail for the accused woman.

There was a discrepancy with the price of the smartphone, in which Smith's lawyer brought to the attention of the court. She stated that the phone is valued at $70,000 rather than $90,000.

The accused woman was granted conditional bail in the sum of $50,000.

She is to report to the Papine Police Station on Mondays and Fridays between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.

DAYLIGHT SEX ON SIDEWALK

Video of incident goes viral on social media

A video of a man and a large woman having sex in broad daylight has crept up on various platforms.

As of Tuesday, the video has racked up close to half-a-million views on Facebook and is being shared through messaging application, WhatsApp.

The video, which was recorded somewhere along Ripon Road, shows the large woman, believed to be a prostitute, bent over a motor vehicle as a slim man has his way with her.

The road, as well as surrounding areas is viewed as a hotspot for such activities.

The man, who was wearing a condom as he did his business in the video, was being boosted by his friends recording his escapade.

However, the man is being derided by the prostitute and a few others for having 'finished' too quickly.

At the end of the video, the woman disposes of the condom, pushes the man away, then walks off.

When THE STAR visited the area on Wednesday afternoon, broken magnum glass bottles and a few used condoms tell the tale of the activities which transpired on that road, which is a location for several businesses, as well as a popular strip club.

THE STAR also observed a prostitute seated on a sidewalk.

A manager for one of the businesses close to where the video was recorded expressed anger at the situation.

"It is upsetting and frustrating. You would think it's Coronation Market. We have been complaining in silence to the police," he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Superintendent in charge of the New Kingston Police Post, Christopher Murdock, said the police use high visibility patrol to deter such activities.

"Whatever activities are taking place on Ripon Road, the police use the high visibility patrol at nights. When persons see the light coming, whatever activities persons would be involved in, they would desist," he said.

Murdock added that covert operations would need to be set up to catch persons in the act. No arrests have been made in relation to prostitution.

Juror opens up about deliberations in Kartel trial

One of the jurorswho served onthe 11-member panelthat convicted entertainer Vybz Kartel has revealed that the discussions in the jury room sometimes strayed tomatters that were not related to the trial.

Dennis Brown, the manwho served as jurornumber six, admitted in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday that in one of those deliberations, they discussedplans for a party to be held in Port Royal.

Brown was testifyingduringcross-examinationin the corruption trial of Livingston Cain, the juror accused of trying to bribe other jurors in the Kartel murder trial.

His testimony provided a behind-the-scenes peakatone of the country's most high-profile murder trials, whichended with the conviction of the popular entertainer, one of his protégés,Shawn 'Shawn Storm' Campbell and two other men.

Responding to questions from Cain's lead attorney, Valerie Neita-Robertson, Brown - who has acknowledgedthat he and at least one other jurorserved on a previous case - agreed that the discussions in the jury room during theKartel murder trial sometimes included personal issues.

Neita-Robertson suggested to the witness that this was the reason her client becameupset and, at one point, threatened not to return to court.

The trial continues today.

Disabled woman denied bathroom access

André Williams, STAR Writer

Relatives of a disabled senior are still fuming following an incident, ironically on International Women's Day, where she was denied access to a bathroom facility at Hellshire Beach, St Catherine.

THE STAR understands that the 86-year-old woman, who is visually impaired, had to be assisted by an onlooker who felt compelled to intervene and allowed her access to their bathroom to relieve herself.

A relative of the disabled woman told THE STAR, "as a nation, we have to take care of our young and old, that is how others judge us as a society. In our day-to-day life, we should be humane companies that have policies, but people only use the bathroom whenever they have to."

Our news team was told that the incident occurred when the family sought to use the bathroom facilities at Prendy's On The Beach restaurant. They had dined at a neighbouring restaurant and that may have caused some contention.

"Quite a lot of money was being spent there and it wasn't being spent at their place, but we offered to pay," said the relative, when our news team asked what triggered the stand-off.

The relative added that while the operators of the restaurant had a right to refuse access to the bathroom, she felt their action was inhumane, since the individual at the centre of the issue is old and was evidently blind, as she had to be led by two persons.

THE STAR was told that before the incident, the group had been dining at the neighbouring restaurant, but went and purchased soup at Prendys' because none was available where they were dining.

The relative said; "Even when we offered to buy something more or pay whatever it cost, we were told no. My God, this is an old woman. the gentleman got irate and insisted that she would not use their facility, a lady came and condoned same."

THE STAR contacted the operators at Prendy's who confirmed the incident and sought to shed some light on the issue.

Donnette Prendergast, manager, told our news team, "I heard an uproar and went to see what was happening, they didn't purchase anything, they were sent from next door. I didn't know that it was a senior citizen. We have a bathroom policy, however, at times we allow persons to use our facility. I'm a woman of God."

Prendergast continued, "When I went out there, everyone turned on me. They were talking 'bout gunshot this and that. The woman had left and I was told that she had gone to use the bathroom elsewhere. When it comes to compassion and love, I am not short on that."

THE STAR was told that the issue had existed because a number of the restaurants are not catering to their customers by providing bathroom facilities.

"You can't expect people to eat and then you say to them go over to Prendy's. Persons need to uplift their facility to please their customers, $740,000 went into building our bathroom."

Alleged 'fondler' granted bail

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

A St Catherine man who allegedly fondled a woman and said "yuh fat eeh" was granted bail when he appeared last Friday in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court in St Catherine.

When the case was mentioned before Resident Magistrate Natalee Brooks, a successful bail application was made by the man's attorney, Earl Hamilton. In applying for bail, Hamilton said his client was a victim of circumstances. He said his client was a good citizen who had no previous conviction and was a fit candidate for bail.

The condition of his bail is that he reports to the Spanish Town police once weekly and reappear on May 25.

Allegations are that in early February, the complainant went to a health facility where the accused man worked. He reportedly made advances at her which she spurned. The complainant said that on another occasion, the accused allegedly grabbed her pubic region and commented on how fat she was.

The woman went back on another occasion and got into a dispute with the accused, who allegedly punched her.

She subsequently reported both matters to the police, and following an investigation he was charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, and indecent assault.

Vehicle damaged in gay love triangle

Jealousy is believed to have been the reason that led a man to damage the vehicle of his supposed male lover.

The incident happened in a popular gated community in St Catherine early Sunday morning.

Eyewitnesses said a man was denied entry to an apartment because another man was present in the apartment with the male tenant.

That resulted in the tenant's motor vehicle windshield being damaged with a machete. The police were alerted and the perpetrator collared.

The incident has infuriated residents as they believe the alleged homosexuals must go.

They said they cannot live close to the homosexuals because of the problems they have been experiencing.

"Is regular that happen. Man have to all jump through window! Dem all pop off the window to climb go upstairs," said a woman, who was adamant she would be telephoning the landlord who resides abroad.

"A blue Swift used to be parked out here. One night, a man jump down on it, (damaging its bonnet) " she added.

A resident who came to the location because of the commotion caused by the incident, contacted the landlord of the apartment to apprise her of the latest incident and the discontentment of the residents.

Though having security guards, sections of the housing scheme have also been beset by unscrupulous individuals who tamper with house doors and steal car batteries. Residents have also reported break-ins.

When the police were contacted, a constable couldn't make any statement about the incident, as the shift that dealt with that incident had already left.

However, the constable stated that she was aware of a break-in which happened sometime last week.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered Yap remanded until April 22, pending trial.

Another remanded for gang leader's death

Andre' Williams, STAR Writer

Another man, an alleged deportee, has been charged with the murder of former leader of the Stone Crusher gang, Eldon Calvert, THE STAR understands.

Reports are that he was pointed out during an identification parade held on the weekend. He was subsequently charged with the murder of Calvert.

THE STAR gathered that Samuels was deported from The Bahamas in early March.

Allegations are that he reportedly fled the island following the fatal shooting of Calvert in Salt Spring, St James, last September.

Sources close to the investigation also said there is a possibility that other charges could be laid against the accused.

Meanwhile, Akroy Sterling, who was previously charged with Calvert's murder, was fatally shot in Hanover while on bail late last year.

Phone thief sentenced

A groundsman employed at a police station in the Corporate Area was sentenced to three months' imprisonment on Friday for stealing a cellular phone belonging to a police sergeant who also works at the station.

Charged with simple larceny is Dwight Ellis.

He pleaded guilty to the offence.

The court heard that Ellis, who is employed as the groundsman at CISOCA, was found in possession of the device, following an unsuccessful search in which he himself supposedly gave a helping hand.

Allegations are that Ellis washed a motor vehicle belonging to the officer, after which the phone went missing.

The sergeant told the court, "Your honour, I went to his quarters with an inspector and told him I was going to search, and he said go ahead. we found the phone there."

phone found

Ellis told the court, "I found it beside the rubbish."

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked the accused, "Why didn't you just tell her you have the phone when she came to your quarters?"

"She didn't give me a chance," said Ellis.
