The Bahamas Weekly has reported that two Jamaican women are in custody after they were arrested on drug charges in separate incidents in that country last Wednesday.
In the first incident, a 30-year-old woman was arrested for importation of dangerous drugs at the Lynden Pindling International Airport.
She is facing charges of Importation of Dangerous Drugs and Possession of Dangerous Drugs with Intent to Supply.
Reports are that officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) searched the suspect, who had just arrived on a commercial airline from Panama. They reportedly found over two pounds of cocaine in her possession.
The drugs have an estimated street value of US$16,000 (BSD$1,756,188). Additionally, the officers seized US$1,200 (BSD$131,714) from the woman. This money is suspected to be proceeds from the sale of drugs.
hotel room searched
In the second arrest, which occurred half an hour later, DEU officers searched the hotel room of another Jamaican woman, where cocaine was also seized.
The 51-year-old is also facing charges of Importation of Dangerous Drugs and Possession of Dangerous Drugs with Intent to Supply.
According to police reports, DEU officers conducted a search of a hotel room in downtown, Nassau, and found a bag containing two pounds of cocaine.
The DEU said the woman had arrived in The Bahamas on a commercial airline from Panama last Wednesday.
