One million dollar bail was granted to prominent medical doctor, Jephthah Ford, when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.
Ford is charged with perverting the course of justice, and is to return to court on May 9.
The court heard that Ford offered to bribe a policeman to drop a case against two Surinamese men from whom US$533,284 was seized.
Prosecutors say Ford offered the bribe during a meeting with the investigating officer.
He allegedly offered the cop 40 per cent of the money seized if he prevented the matter involving the Surinamese from going to court.
As a condition of his bail, Ford is to report to the St Andrew North police three times per week and surrender his travel documents.
