Two of three persons charged with using a device to take money from unsuspected persons' accounts were freed in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday, while the other is to be sentenced on June 24.
The men were freed after attorney-at-law Mark Sheckleford successfully argued that his clients were being set up and knew nothing about the fraud.
Those freed are Sophia Bromfield and Annie Hibbert both of Spanish Town, St Catherine.
Meanwhile, Damion Tomlinson, who pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to defraud, was remanded until June when he is to be sentenced.
The court heard that in 2009 the three accused were arrested and charged with conspiracy, malicious destruction of property, and being in possession of housebreaking implement.
It was revealed that the accused had placed a device inside an Automated Teller Machine along Brunswick Avenue in Spanish Town, St Catherine.
The device which is equipped with a camera would copy the PIN numbers of customers and transfer it to the accused who would read it and do transactions of their own.
The irregularity was uncovered and the Fraud Squad was called in, and following an investigation, they were charged with fraud.
They have made numerous court appearances in the matter.
