A Jamaican woman is now in custody after it was alleged that she was found attempting to smuggle US$45,000 (approximately $J5,000,000) worth of cocaine into the United States in her luggage, THE STAR has learnt.

Facing federal narcotics smuggling charges is Chevelle Rusheen Nesbeth. According to the New York Post, federal authorities claim that Nesbeth, flying from the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, to the John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in New York, hid 2.5 pounds of cocaine in multiple suitcases.

THE STAR gathered that Nesbeth, who arrived in the United States on January 6, was detained by Customs and Border Protection officers who inspected her luggage when they noticed the handrails of her luggage were "unusually dense".

The drug has an estimated street value of more than J$5.1 million. She has since been turned over to Homeland Security while the matter is being investigated.
