Two hospitalised in Portmore crash

A two-vehicle collision along Municipal Boulevard in Portmore, St Catherine, yesterday has left two persons hospitalised.

Reports are that about 2 p.m., a Volkswagen Rabbit and a Toyota Prado Sport Utility Vehicle were travelling in opposite directions.

Upon reaching a section of the road, the driver of the driver of the Prado reportedly overtook a line of traffic.

He collided with the Volkswagen, which was heading towards the roundabout. Both vehicles were reduced to mangled metal, with the engine parts ripped from the VW.

"It is clear that speeding is a contributing factor, and drivers need to be careful. The female driver of the VW suffered severe injuries, though," a policeman said.

Meanwhile, a member the Portmore Municipal Council used the opportunity to warn speeding motorists.

"Not because the corridor is so smooth; it must not be treated like a race track, " Councillor Fenly Douglas said.
