Man accused of burning former lover's house remanded

A Portmore, St Catherine, man who is accused of burning the house of his former lover was remanded when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.


He is Anthony Baker of Greater Portmore in the parish. When the matter was mentioned, Baker was again remanded.


The clerk of court told the court that there were outstanding documents which is crucial to the case.


Resident Magistrate Natalee Brooks then ordered that Baker remains with the police.


Allegations are that on June 28, 2015, Baker and the complainant had a dispute. He promised to burn down the house valued at $5,000,000. On the June 29, 2015 he called to say "mi do wa mi sey mi did aggo do". The woman then returned to her premises and found her house gutted by fire.


Baker is said to have then called her and apologised for burning the house.


A report was made and the accused was held by the police. He was positively identified by the complainant. Following further investigations, he was charged with arson.
