An alleged robber who was swift in stealing a cellular phone, but not fast enough as he was caught by police officers within minutes, was hauled before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Charged with larceny from the person is 24-year-old Dennis Lawrence from Waltham Park Road, Kingston.

Allegations are that on January 3, at approximately 6 p.m. the complainant was sitting inside a bus along a section of Howard Street, Kingston, when the accused reportedly approached the window and grabbed her cellular phone.

There was an alleged struggle between both parties, however, the accused managed to gain possession of the phone. He made a hasty getaway thereafter. It is believed that police personnel were able to accost Lawrence within minutes of the alleged incident. He was reportedly found with a black Huawei device belonging to the female complainant in his possession.

In court, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey sentenced the accused to three months' imprisonment. A fingerprint order was previously made against him.
