Accused smuggler remanded

A woman who attempted to smuggle cocaine from Jamaica, which was strapped to her body, was remanded yesterday when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court and will be sentenced on February 19.

Charged with possession, dealing, taking steps to export and conspiracy to export cocaine is Jenice Johnson.

She pleaded guilty to all counts.

The court was told that 25 pellets of cocaine weighing a total of three pounds (1.5 kilograms) was found on Johnson.

Allegations are that Johnson had the drugs in her brassiere and other parts of her body.

The court heard that she was scheduled to depart the island for Ft. Lauderdale.

Resident Magistrate Maxine Ellis requested Johnson's antecedents ahead of her sentencing next month.
