Doctors are warning women to stop the practice of using the vagina to smoke cigarettes. THE STAR sought medical expertise on the practice following the release of a video on YouTube and on popular social networking site Facebook with a woman doing the exciting stunt at a party.
The party was held in McCook's Pen, a community located off Old Harbour Road, St Catherine, about two weeks ago.
Due to the content of the three-minute video, Facebook removed the clip, however, viewers are still able to watch it on YouTube.
The woman at the centre of the video, who is clad in her underwear and a skimpy top, exposed her private area, danced, and showed other stunts at the party, while other females gyrated on each other.
However, partygoers got her full attention when she inserted the cigarette and puffed it as if she was using her mouth.
The videographer for the event said that after posting the clip on Facebook, he received close to 100 friend requests, however, the social site removed the video and prevented him from doing any other uploading for 24 hours.
"People from overseas are messaging me to find out how they can get copies of the video. Women do all kinds of crazy things in the club, but it's outside of the norm for a woman to be so bareface inna dance. She grabbed people's attention in di dance. Only a few persons were condemning it at the party," VideoMark from Avis Multimedia Production said.
Gynaecologist Michael Abrahams said the practice is not a good idea, as women are already at a high risk of cervical cancer.
Prominent medical doctor Jephthah Ford said that the stunt is common among exotic dancers and it makes entertainment value, but there are health risks.
"A lot of the dancers can do it, but it takes practice, and if the cigarette is puffed too low then it can burn the vagina. Another concern is that young girls may see the practice and may want to try it and cause the cigarette to be dislodged in the vagina, therefore creating a problem that will need medical attention," Ford said.
