Mentally ill inmate yet to be charged

A mentally ill inmate at the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre, who has been implicated in the fatal stabbing of another inmate on Saturday, is yet to be charged.

It is reported that the deceased, also a mental patient, was stabbed in a dispute over a spliff.

Allegations are that both inmates got into an altercation about 9:50 a.m., when a ratchet knife came into play. Reports from the police are that the inmate was stabbed in his left ear. He was pronounced dead at the institution's medical facility.

The Kingston Eastern police, personnel from Scene of Crime, and the Department's Inspectorate Unit are investigating the inmate's death.
