Three cops charged with breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act had their bails extended in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Those charged are Special Corporal Tyrone Harvey, Constables Lamore Campbell and Stacey-Ann Whittingham, all from the St Catherine South Division.
When the matter came up, it was revealed by investigators that there are some difficulties in getting the complainants to court. Attorneys-at-law Sean Kinghorn and Peter Champagnie told the court that their clients are suffering while the Crown drags its feet.
It was decided that by March 25, the Crown should be ready to proceed.
Allegations are that in January last year, the three accused were on duty in Hellshire, St Catherine, when they reportedly saw a motor car in bushes with two men behaving strangely. The men were accosted and threatened that they would be charged unless they paid $500,000.
It was reported that the two men were taken to an Automated Teller Machine where a sum of money was paid over to the accused.
A subsequent report was made and investigations were conducted by the Anti-Corruption Branch. The Director of Public Prosecutions later ruled that the cops be charged with corruption.
