Men on drug charge face court March 19

WESTERN BUREAU:

Two St James men reportedly held with more than two pounds of cocaine last March had their case deferred to March 19, 2014, due to the absence of two documents from their case file.

Hugh Roach, 38, from Westgate Hills, and Kirk Levey, 52, from Porto Bello, are charged with possession of and dealing in cocaine. Their combined $1.7 million bail was extended in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's (RM) Court yesterday.

Allegations are that on March 6, 2013, at approximately 5:20 p.m., police were on operation in Westgate Hills when they saw Roach and Levey on the front patio of Roach's house.

Roach attempted to hide a plastic bag under his chair, but it was retrieved and found to contain a rectangular package wrapped in masking tape, which when cut open, was found to contain a white powdery substance resembling cocaine. Roach and Levey were arrested.

Clerk of the Court Natalie Malcolm told RM Carolyn Tie that both the forensic certificate and call-record documents were outstanding.

RM Tai subsequently set the case for mention on March 19. "Your bails are extended until then," she told Roach and Levey.
