Bartender ordered to pay for bleach assault

A bartender who threw bleach in her customers' eye, resulting in him being hospitalised, was ordered in court to pay $50,000 for his medical bills.

Alison Genius, who is charged with assault, appeared in the Corpo-rate Area Resident Magistrate's Court recently.

She pleaded guilty and offered the court an explanation for her action.

The court was told that the two were in a bar when an altercation developed.

According to the complainant, Genius took up the bottle containing the bleach and threw it in his face and some caught his eyes.

Genius, however, told the court, "Your, Honour, I didn't know it was bleach, I thought it was water."

The court heard that the complainant was hospitalised for nine days and is presently going through therapy because of the injury.
