Portland is the least likely place to be murdered on the island based on statistics, however, the new year has started off on a negative note, recording three murders for the month of January.
The parish recorded the lowest figures islandwide last year, with nine murders. For the first quarter of 2013, Portland recorded one murder.
Two of the three incidents that have taken place in the parish since the start of the year have been linked to domestic disputes.
In the latest incident, 35-year-old tiler, Rollack Murray, was stabbed in his back about 8:30 p.m. at the home he shared with his common-law wife at Park Lane, Buff Bay, on January 25.
Police said the two were reportedly involved in a dispute when Murray was stabbed. The woman reportedly made an alarm, and Murray was assisted into a vehicle. He, however, succumbed to his injuries en route to the Annotto Bay Hospital in the neighbouring parish of St Mary.
On January 15, the body of German national, Ute Sobtaier, 48, was discovered outside his house at Park Mountain, with what appears to be stab wounds to the abdomen.
In another incident, the body of 38-year-old Janice Linton, a resident, of Baker Hill, Hope Bay, was also discovered with what appeared to be stab wounds to the abdomen.
Meanwhile, the police in the parish have called for residents to engage them in conflict resolution.
