Drug dealer to be executed

A Jamaican drug dealer who is convicted of murdering a highway patrol trooper in Florida over 20-years-ago is scheduled to be executed on Wednesday at the Florida State Prison for the offence.

Forty-seven-year-old Paul Augus-tus Howell, from Spauldings, Clarendon, has been on death row for the past 18 years. He was convicted of killing the lawman with a home-made pipe bomb on February 1, 1992.

According to the Associated Press, the bomb was placed inside a gift-wrapped microwave oven which authorities claim was intended to kill two women in the Panhandle town of Marianna, because they knew too much about a drug-related murder in Broward County.

The officer stopped the speeding car which Howell was in as it was transporting the package and was killed instantly when he opened it.
