Neville Lewis, the man who confessed in court to killing a 84-year-old newspaper vendor in downtown Kingston, is now fit to plea, the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court heard on Thursday.
Lewis, 20, who had mentioned that a spirit entered his body and caused him to kill the elderly woman last year was given a psychiatric evaluation, which came back to the court indicating that he is deemed fit to enter a plea.
He is to return to court on March 17, when his mother is expected to attend.
It is reported that the elderly newspaper vendor was hacked to death by a man believed to be of unsound mind after he allegedly asked her for money and she refused.
Dead is Sylvia Sewell, 83, from Hanna Town, Kingston. She was attacked on May 30, at the intersection of Beckford and Orange streets.
Her attacker was reportedly set upon by an angry mob, but was rescued by private security personnel.
Sewell had sold The Gleaner and THE STAR for more than 30 years.
