Alleged thief leaves ID at scene of crime

Most individuals aspire to be the best in their field. However, if the allegation in a case before the courts is true, it goes without saying that one burglar who left his wallet containing identification cards in a home he invaded does not exemplify the prowess of a particularly skilled housebreaker.

Thirty-nine-year-old Carlos Chen, who is ordinarily a mason, learnt this the hard way when he was denied bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Housebreaking

The crown alleged that Chen, charged with housebreaking and larceny and receiving stolen property, removed burglar bars from a section of the house to gain access. It is further claimed, the accused took possession of cellular phones, a component set, and other items valued at $60,000.

Reports are that Chen was picked up by the police, who used the identification found in his wallet to locate him. It is believed that upon visiting the home of the accused in St Mary, several items, including a small amplifier and a component set alleged to have been stolen from the complainant's Stony Hill, St Andrew home were found at the premises.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered the accused to return to court on February 14 for a mention hearing.
