Charged with possession of, conspiracy to export, dealing in and taking steps preparatory to export ganja is Adrienne Foster from Catherine Hall, St James and Miami, Florida.
The court heard that on January 8 about 3:45 p.m. police conducting security checks at the airport noticed Foster preparing to board a flight to London, England.
She was asked if she packed her suitcase herself to which she responded in the affirmative. A search was requested and an assortment of cans bearing the label ackee and callaloo were discovered.
The tins were subsequently cut opened and cylindrical parcels wrapped with carbon paper allegedly containing ganja were found.
When cautioned, Foster told police that a friend of a friend knew of her desire to travel and offered to pay for her trip. She said she met the man who gave her a suitcase to give to relatives in the United Kingdom.
Foster broke down in tears telling officers "I can't believe someone would do this to me. I only wanted to travel the world because I have a deadly disease and I am on a death sentence,".
Foster's attorney beseeched Resident Magistrate Grace Henry-McKenzie to grant her bail as a result of medical reasons, however he told the RM that he would need to get confirmation of her medical status from her doctors abroad. Foster returns to court on March 10.
