A St Catherine woman who allegedly used a hotplate to burn the hands of two children after they stole items from her is to reappear in court next year.

Charged with child abuse is Lavena Thompson, 35-year-old labourer, of Jew Pen, St Catherine.

When the matter was mentioned in the Linstead Resident Magistrate's Court last Friday, Thompson's $150,000 bail was extended.

Allegations are that in January 2012, the accused returned home from an errand. She learnt that her son and nephew stole items from a refrigerator.

Thompson then grabbed both complainants and placed their hands over the hotplate and injured them.

Both complainants suffered burns; they were treated at hospital.

An investigation by Constable Lyton Cunningham of the Bog Walk Police Station resulted in Thompson been charged.

She is scheduled to appear in court on January 8.
