A resolution was passed yesterday at the monthly general meeting of the St Catherine Parish Council for persons to vend on selective streets in communities in the parish over the festive season.

According to parish council chairman, Councillor Norman Scott, this is necessary as the Linstead and Princess markets are overflowing with vendors.

He said that sections of Burke Road, Manchester Street and French Street in Spanish Town are designated. In Linstead, Fletchers Avenue will be used for vending.

According to Scott, the allowed period wiil be between December 16, 2014 and January 3, 2015.

He said that the police will be an integral part of the process to ensure an orderly operation.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent Marlon Nesbeth, the commanding officer for the St Andrew North police, said the police will be out in their number, to maintain order.

He asked that the council gather data of persons selling so as to give the police better control to effectively monitor the changes.

It was also revealed that the police are challenged with vehicle shortage.

It was the consensus that the police and the local authority work together to tackle the crime-monster in the parish.
