Large cocaine seizure at airport


Police seized approximately 55 pounds of cocaine and hashish valued at J$33 million at various ports of entry on Monday.


In the first incident, the Transnational Crime and Narcotics Division (TCND) and Customs Enforcement Officers seized a quantity of cocaine at the Kingston Container Terminal in Kingston.


Reports say about 8:30 a.m., a container was searched and 20 packages containing 48 pounds of cocaine with an estimated street value of J$31 million was found. No one was arrested.


Hours later, police seized more than a pound of cocaine at the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) in Kingston. Errol Morris, 47, otherwise called 'Trash' and 'Ready', of Mount Salem, St James, was arrested.


Reports are that about 1 p.m., Morris arrived at the NMIA on a flight from Curacao, when he was searched and the cocaine found in his suitcase. He is booked to appear before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.


In another incident, police arrested a man for attempting to export cocaine and hashish at the Sangster International Airport, St James.


Reports say about 2 p.m., Everald Golding, 51, of Mount Edgecomb, Runaway Bay, St Ann, checked in for a flight to Toronto, Canada. He was searched and 127 cocaine pellets weighing over two pounds were found. The drug has an estimated street value of J$1.6 million. A search of his luggage revealed hashish valued at J$920,000. Golding is booked to appear before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on January 2.
