Man shot dead, another injured in 'Third World' Waterford

The St Catherine South Major Investigation Task Force has launched a probe in a shooting incident which resulted in the death of a man and the injuring of another yesterday morning.


Dead is David Orrette, otherwise called 'Ratty', 32, unemployed of Waterford, Portmore, St Catherine.


Police reports are that about 8:30 a.m., Orrette was among persons seated on a pathway in the 'Third World' area of Waterford. A man reportedly walked up to the group, brandished a handgun, and fired shots hitting Orrette and the injured man all over their bodies.


Orrette succumbed to his injuries, while the other man remained hospitalised.


No motive has been established in the shooting.


The police said that the preliminary investigations indicated that the target was Orrette.


Police operatives have increased a presence in the area, which is said to be tense since the incident.
