Up to late last night, seven people, believed to be all related, remained in hospital in serious condition, following a major crash in Swansea, Clarendon, yesterday morning.

The crash claimed the life of a teacher of the Garvey Maceo High School in the parish. Thirty-year-old Anika Smith of Havana Heights, who had to be cut from the wreckage, was killed on the spot.

The Star understands that one victim has been transferred to the The University Hospital of the West Indies for further treatment.

The crash occurred minutes to 5 o'clock yesterday morning as the driver of a minibus in which they were travelling lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road into a ditch. An eyewitness said the driver appeared to have lost control of the bus some 90 metres before it ended up in the ditch.

The victims were said to be travelling from a dance in Manchester.
