A man believed to be a Jamaican national, who was held by officials in England recently, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment following the discovery of £14,000 (J$2.6 million) of cocaine during a raid.
The accused, 40, of the inner-city community of Handsworth, Birmingham, England, was found by the lawmen acting on information, at a premises sometime last year.
When he appeared in Birmingham Crown Court, he denied possessing drugs with intent to supply, the Birmingham Mail reported.
THE STAR understands that in addition to the cocaine, the accused was found in possession of two passports in his name; one Jamaican, the other British. He allegedly told the courts that the drugs found by police did not belong to him and the passports had been discarded in a "moment of passion."
According to the Birmingham Mail, the police stated that: "He explained that personal possessions found at the property, including both his Jamaican and British passports, must have fallen from his 'man bag' as he discarded the bag in a moment of passion."
