A boxing promoter who was slapped with fraud charges after it was alleged that he used money belonging to popular boxer Tsetsi 'Lights Out' Davis was granted bail in court yesterday.
Charged with fraudulent conversion is Christopher Brown. He was granted bail in the sum of $200,000 when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court. When the matter was called up, he pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The court was told that Brown was entrusted with $200,000 to do promotions on behalf of the complainant.
Allegations are that he collected the money, however, instead using it for his own use.
New developments
During yesterday's court proceedings, the clerk of court informed Resident Magistrate Opal Smith that the investigating officer in the matter was receiving additional complaints from other persons who claim to have been treated wrongfully by Brown.
Brown's attorney, however, informed the court that these new developments were not why her client was before the court and asked that the present matter be dealt with.
As condition of his bail, Brown is to report to the police every Thursday between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
He is also required to surrender all his travel documents and give his fingerprints to the police.
Brown is to return to court on May 26.
