The St Andrew Central police have launched a manhunt for a man believed to be a member of the homosexual community, known to frequent New Kingston. This after he allegedly shot at a patrol team on Wednesday morning.
Information reaching THE WEEKEND STAR is that officers from the New Kingston Police Post were summoned to an area near The Quad parking lot about 2 a.m. on Wednesday, where it was said that a man was posing with a gun.
Reports are that when the police got to the area, a man who fitted the description of the gun-touting individual was spotted.
Our news team gathered that on the approach of the police, the man pulled his firearm and ran in the opposite direction. Officers contacted police control and a patrol team went in pursuit of the armed man.
Further reports are that he was later spotted on Trafalgar Road near a gully known to be home to homeless homosexuals.
An officer who requested anonymity said "When the boy see the police vehicle approaching, he opened fire at the patrol unit and jumped into the gully ... ."
A search of the gully was conducted and the man was not found.
THE WEEKEND STAR was told that the officers went back to the area the following day in search of the alleged gunman. They saw other homosexual men, however, none matched the description of the man they went in search of.
A senior officer confirmed reports of the alleged shooting and told our news team that the investigation was ongoing.
