A man accused of stealing three bottles of body lotion was remanded when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
The accused, Carlton Bennett, pleaded not guilty to the charge of petty larceny.
The Crown alleged that on the day in question, Bennett, is believed to have entered a convenience store attached to a gas station. Upon entering, it is alleged that a security guard working at the establishment observed Bennett clad in a multicoloured shirt placing a bottle of lotion in his waist.
Delaying pouncing on the accused, the security guard reportedly retreated to a blind spot inside the minimart, further observing the accused stuffing two more lotion bottles into his waist.
Subsequently, the security guard, accompanied by back-up approached Bennett outside the convenience store. It is alleged that upon searching Bennett, a total of three botles of body lotion were found on his person.
Vehemently denying the allegations, Bennett explained that he was not found with anything in his possession.
"I went to buy some porridge to drink," Bennett said.
Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey ordered the accused remanded until May 28 for trial.
