More than 70 persons were taken into custody by the security forces during an anti-crime operation yesterday.

About 1:30 p.m., heavily armed personnel swooped down on sections of March Pen Road, Dallas Lane, the bus park and, the general shopping district.

"We need this type of operation more often to get the criminals out of the way," a business operator said.

During the operation, the business community was adversely affected. Persons were inconvenienced in their movement, as security personnel went about their work.

"The operation is to deal with crimes which is as a result of intra-gang feud in the Clans Man Gang. This has resulted in murders and shootings, and it must stop," Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Marlon Nesbeth said.

SSP Nesbeth said while the leaders are in custody, they are giving instructions for persons to be killed.

Nesbeth also said that there were nine murder suspects on the parish's wanted list.

Number one on the list, he said, is Kelonji Tyrell, who is wanted for seven murders in Bog Walk, St Catherine.

He said that since 2015, a total of 15 illegal guns have been seized - 10 more than the corresponding period last year.
