Fighting over mop lands two in court

The cross-case involving two men fighting over a mop has been set for trial on May 13.

Charged with malicious destruction of property and assault occasioning bodily harm are Kirk Scott and Dillano Thomas.

The Crown is alleging that on the day of the incident, Scott and the mother of his child, who is Thomas' sister, were arguing with Thomas over who actually owned a mop. Scott and his child's mother are claiming ownership.

A fight subsequently ensued between both accused and Scott pushed the complainant into a gate causing electronic items Thomas had on his person to be damaged. Thomas said he was hit three times with a shovel near the gate.

Scott also received injuries during the incident. He told Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey. "His (Thomas) issue is that anything his grandmother died and left is his."

They are to return to court in early May.
