Cop, 8-y-o boy stabbed in downtown Kingston

One man was taken into custody following the stabbing of a police constable and an eight-year-old boy in downtown Kingston yesterday.

Reports are that about 2 p.m., the child was on his way home from school when, on reaching the intersection of Duke and Sutton Streets in the parish, he was attacked and stabbed by a man believed to be of unsound mind. The lawman, who was nearby, went to the assistance of the boy and attempted to accost the mentally ill man when he, too, was stabbed.

A licensed firearm holder went to assist the officer; however, the attacker managed to escape. He was later apprehended and taken to the Bellevue Hospital for treatment.

The policeman was treated and released and the child has been admitted in stable condition.

Investigations continue.
