Businessman and reputed gang leader Uriel James, more popularly known as Rooksie, was yesterday freed in the Gun Court of charges of illegal possession of firearm, shooting with intent and robbery with aggravation.
When the case was mentioned, James' lawyers, Tom and Christian Tavares Finson, told the court that the case had been dragging on for too long.
The lawyers pointed out that there were 10 trial dates, that the defence was always ready for trial and that the complainant had never attended court.
The prosecution conceded and offered no evidence.
James, who appeared before Justice Bertram Morrison, was told he was free to go.
It was alleged that in 2011, James and two other men held up the complainant at gunpoint and robbed him of money and other personal items.
Shots were fired in the direction of the complainant while he tried to escape.
Despite being freed in the gun court, the alleged gang leader remains behinds bars as he has other matters before the courts.
James is facing three murder charges in the Home Circuit Court.
The charges stemmed from separate murder incidents in 1999, 2004 and 2011.
