Thieves rob JPS boss

Kelly Tomblin

Relieved of phone with $200,000 credit

Jamaica Public Service (JPS) president and CEO, Kelly Tomblin, was recently robbed of her cellular phone outside of her company office in New Kingston and within less than three hours her phone was resold.

The purchaser was later held by the police and charged with receiving stolen property.

On Friday, when the matter was called up in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court, the accused Alecia Smith, a bartender, pleaded not guilty to the offence.

The incident, which occurred on March 8, about 12:30 p.m., resulted in the CEO being robbed of a $90,000 Samsung Galaxy S5, allegedly by two men - a rider and a pillion - one of who grabbed the device and escaped on a motorcycle.

The court heard that the device, which contained $200,000 worth of call credit before it was stolen, was later found in the possession of the bartender in east Kingston.

The police are said to be searching for the rider and the pillion that allegedly sold the phone to Smith for $25,000.

A bail application by Smith's lawyer was denied even after the attorney told the court that her client was co- operating with the investigation.

The police are said to be hot on the heels of the accused men. Smith is to return to court on March 26.

She was further remanded and a fingerprint order made.
