Members of the Counter Terrorism and Organised Branch of the Jamaica Constabulary Force were yesterday busy counting and documenting the thousands of counterfeit brand name shoes seized from K's Superstore at Orange Street, downtown Kingston, during a raid carried out in collaboration with a Contraband Enforcement team from Jamaica Customs.
Piles of counterfeit shoes were found in an upstairs storeroom, while several hundred pairs of Nike, Adidas, Puma, Converse, Polo, All Star and Levi were on display on shelves downstairs.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Clarence Bailey, told TheStar that similar raids were carried out across the Caribbean and North and South America as part of a regional clampdown on illicit, counterfeit and uncustomed goods.
Up to press time, no arrests had been made but it was expected that charges would be laid against the owner/operator when a tally of all the contraband goods was completed.
