Former China Harbour Engineering Company employee Ronaldo Walker, accused of stealing gas oil from the agency, was freed of larceny when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Walker's freedom came after a successful no-case submission by his attorney Courtney Maxwell.

Maxwell told the court that the Crown has no grounds on which to prosecute his client for simple larceny.

Collected statement

Resident Magistrate Natalee Brookes made inquiries as to why the accused was charged. Following perusal of the court's file, Walker was then told that he did not have a case to answer. The RM also ordered the police to return the 1992 Nissan B13 seized from the accused.

Allegations are that on February 27, 2015 the police stopped a Nissan motor car driven by Walker.

The vehicle was searched by the police and four gallons of diesel valued at $2,250 was found. Further checks revealed that it was the property of CHEC.

The court heard that the police collected statement from a man who was travelling with Walker at the time of his arrest and then charged him with larceny.
