Residents of west Kingston took to the streets of the community yesterday to protest the transfer of Senior Superintendent of Police Steve McGregor, who is the officer in charge of the division.
McGregor is set to be transferred to St James next month to help combat crime in that parish.
The traffic came to a standstill along Spanish Town Road close to the Denham Town Police Station yesterday afternoon, as the residents expressed anger at the senior policeman's transfer.
Debris, including an old refrigerator and rocks were among the items used by residents to block the roadway as they urged the Commissioner of Police, Dr Carl Williams, and National Security Minister, Peter Bunting, to reconsider their decision.

The residents are also claiming that persons would likely die during the time it would take for a new policeman to get acquainted with the community.
"Mr McGregor has shown competence in west Kingston. He has a proven track record of getting down to the level of the citizens in dealing with problems arising.
Since being here, we've seen a decline in the crime rate," said a resident of the community.
In addressing the residents, McGregor urged them to remain calm as he plans to meet with the police commissioner tomorrow.
McGregor said he will address the community following his meeting.
