Detectives from the Kingston Central Police Division seized a quantity of uncustomed goods during an operation at a premises located along a section of Princess Street, downtown Kingston last night.
Roughly 1000 pairs of counterfeit sneaker-styled shoes with varying labels valuing millions of dollars were seized.
When THE STAR arrived on the scene about 10:00 p.m., the operators of a wholesale along a section of Princess Street appeared displaced and dejected as they sat in front of the premises following the raid. Police personnel were seen busily investigating the matter.
Reports reaching THE STAR are that police personnel from Kingston Central Division on patrol in the area observed what they say was suspicious activity taking place at the premises. It is believed that the storefront was notably the only establishment that appeared to be open for business at that hour, which arouse their suspicion.
Bootleg operation
"During a routine check in the area, (we noticed) at this time of night, the store should not be open. Patrol was out, and the store was seen open, and persons were caught with bootleg operation. This appears to be a continuation of the operation that was carried out yesterday (Tuesday) on Orange Street," said Deputy Superintendent of Police Eric Wint of the Kingston Central Division.
It is believed that the operators of the establishment were making an attempt to remove the uncustomed goods from the premises following Tuesday's discovery of more than J$50 million worth of uncustomed goods seized in a separate operation along a section of Orange Street in downtown Kingston.
Up to press-time, nobody was taken into custody in relation to the seizure.
Investigations continue.
