Thirty-six-year-old Damion Gray, otherwise called 'Butch', of Shelter Rock, St Catherine, was shot dead during a confrontation with the police in Central Village, St Catherine, yesterday.
Reports are that Gray had escaped police custody from the Spanish Town Lock-up on Friday, April 12, 2013, where he was being held on charges of shooting with intent, receiving stolen property and assault at common-law. He was also implicated in the murders of Ryan Grant, Othneil Tulloch and Joslyn Bryce, all of St. Catherine addresses.
About 4 a.m., lawmen conducted an intelligence-led operation in the area during which a confrontation ensued. Gray was later found with gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. One .45 semi-automatic pistol with two rounds of ammunition was seized during the incident.
The matter has been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).
