Clarendon cops clamp down on illegal 'Cash Pot' vendors

Illegal 'Cash Pot' sellers in Clarendon are on the run following a major crackdown on the illicit industry by the Clarendon Police Proactive Unit, which made multiple arrests last week, according a senior officer in the unit.

The senior officer said proceeds from the multi-million dollar illegal gambling racket have bankrolling and arming gangs. Therefore the unit is targeting major players behind the illegal gambling act.

"We (the pro-active unit) have already made five arrests, within the last week, in Clarendon, in our ongoing clampdown.

However, we are going after the kingpins to shut down the whole operation completely," a member of the Clarendon Proactive Unit said.

"Illegal cash pot sales generate millions of dollars each year and intelligence is indicating that proceeds from the illegal sales are being used to fund and arm gangs in the parish," the senior police added.

The officer said the unit is expected to make what he described as "high-profile" arrests soon.

He said the unit will make these arrests with the cooperation of the five persons charged for breaching the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries act.
