Trelawny records first two murders for the year

FALMOUTH, Trelawny:

After not recording a murder since the start of the year, the parish of Trelawny was rocked by two back-to-back murders.

In the first incident, late Tuesday night, Jermaine Bartley, 29, who lived in Congo Town, Wakefield, was gunned down while standing along the roadway in a section of his community.

Police reports indicate that men travelling in a car pounced upon Bartley and shot him multiple times. He was taken to the Falmouth Public General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In the second incident, the body of a man was found burnt beyond recognition in a cane field in Deeside on Wednesday. The police believe that the body may be that of a man who went missing from the community of Wakefield at the weekend.

This is yet to be confirmed, however, as even the relatives who viewed the body could not identify it as it was completely burnt.

Trelawny had been declared the safest parish for a number of years and was enjoying the status of not having any murders for 2015 despite the runaway murder rate nationally, when it was jolted by these two killings.
