A woman accused of damaging a minibus using the shear weight of her body had her bail extended when she appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last Thursday.

Charged with malicious destruction of property is 20-year-old Oneika Chambers of St Johns Road, Spanish Town, St Catherine. She pleaded not guilty to the offence.

Allegations are that on January 27 at approximately 1:45 p.m., the accused woman reportedly used her right elbow to hit and damage a Toyota Hiace minibus parked along a section of Regent Street, downtown Kingston. It is believed that the accused woman left behind two sizeable dents in two separate panels affixed to the vehicle.

She was subsequently arrested and charged.

Alleged attack

In court, the female complainant revealed that she had not seen the alleged attack on the vehicle, however, she brought an eyewitness who claimed to have seen the entire incident.

When the alleged witness was called, she had this to say: "She was going down and she fling her whole body inna it,"

The alleged eyewitness was nothing short of animated as she went through great pains to re-enact the occurrence for Resident Magistrate Maxine Chambers.

By the end of the proceeding, the complainant made sure to have the last word as she told the judge that the accused woman constantly threatens her.

"I'm also verbally abused on regular occasions," she stated.

"Go to the police station, make a report and they will give you a receipt. They will know how to follow up with you on that," RM Chambers advised.

Subsequently, the accused woman had her bail extended. She is to return to court on March 30 for trial.
