MAN STONES WOMAN AFTER REJECTION

A man who stoned a woman after his compliment to her was rejected was ordered to pay a fine or serve time yesterday when the matter was called up in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's court.

Charged with assault is Sheldon Robinson.

He pleaded guilty with explanation.

Robinson said that on the day in question he saw the complainant walking in the community and said something to her.

"My girl, you smell good and you sexy", the accused told the court.

Smell good

According to him, the complainant first threw stones and responded to him saying, "If you bathe, you will smell good to."

However, when asked to speak, the complainant refuted much of Robinson's claims.

She told the court, "Your honour, I couldn't find any stones to throw, a him a fling after me and hit me on my foot. If it was any other woman in the community he wouldn't try that a because me nuh have nobody."

The complainant told the court that Robinson said other things to her, during their exchange, that cannot be repeated in court.

Apologise

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked, "What if it's you he likes. What do you want me to do with him?"

The complainant told the court to send the accused man to jail.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey instead invited the accused man to apologise to the complainant, which he did.

He was then ordered to pay $5,000 or serve six months' imprisonment with no other order.
