Detectives from the Kingston Central Criminal Investigation Bureau are probing yesterday's shooting death of a man along a section of East Street, downtown Kingston.

When THE STAR arrived on the scene, investigators said that the shooting occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. The lawmen were seen combing the cordoned-off area for clues.

Up to late yesterday, the police were not able to confirm the identity of the deceased man.

Reports are that the now-deceased was standing near a bus stop at the intersection of Locket Avenue and East Street when he was approached by a lone gunman who shot him several times. The unidentified deceased reportedly sustained gunshots wounds all over his body.

Speculating

As community dwellers milled around yesterday, they lamented the rationale behind the shooting.

"A sleep mi a sleep and mi hear bup, bup, bup, bup! When mi rush out, mi see somebody a lay pon the ground. Right by di stall deh so," said a resident who lived nearby. "Mi just see when people throw him inna one taxi and gone."

"A nuh nuh likkle gun. Yu hear pow, pow, pow, pow," said another resident, speculating that a high-powered firearm must have been used in the shooting.

Investigations are ongoing.
